For all the 305 haters

For all the people saying a 305 can't be made into a good motor, here ya go, watch and see what a measly 305 can do. Even if u look at the initial baseline non sprayed run, at 300+hp it's obviously a good setup. Yea I understand the concept of same parts on a 350 make more power, but not all of us have TIME to just swap for a 350. So if u got a 305, build her up, makes a nice little street setup. Enjoy!

Re: For all the 305 haters

Dude.

Did you miss the part where they installed a $120 cam, $800 heads, $200 roller rockers, a $200 intake, and a $550 carb? Plus they conveniently left out the details of the short block, like flat top or dished pistons. They're running an engine dyno with headers and exhaust that likely won't fit a thirdgen either...

So they spent roughly $2000 on top of the free 305, which doesn't really account for practicality, the health of the original short block, gaskets, lifters, timing set, etc. Meanwhile, a Chevy Vortec 350 longblock crate engine is roughly $2000 delivered. The unaccounted expenses involved with the 305 build up should cover the odds and ends to make the Vortec work in place of a 305. The 350 is essentially a new engine. With a cam swap and some minor trickery it'll probably put out nearly the same power as that 305, and it won't be pushing nearly as hard to do it.

How much of the 305's setup is going to work in a Camaro? How long is it going to make that power before it self destructs? How well is it actually going to cooperate on the street (street manners) with a 850cfm carb?

Re: For all the 305 haters

305s are great motors and do exactly what they designed them for. Last a long time, get decent fuel mileage, and sound good as does any GM V8. They just aren't a high performance engine when compared to the greatest smallblock of all time. The Chevrolet 350. Yes you can make a 305 run really good its just not worth it to most people when its so easy to get your hands on a 350 and make so much more power easier and cheaper.

And let the haters begin lmao!!
DUDE, did u miss the part where he said stock SHORTBLOCK which includes all bottom end PISTONS and rotating assembly.PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS next time lmao Yes it has bolt ons, heads cam intake carb, and obviously that's a nice setup for a street car as those parts WILL FIT in a third gen lmao. I know those parts on a 350 is a better setup, **** so is a 454. Some people like to run what they got.

Stock shortblock out of what? A 79 Caprice wagon? An 85 L69 Z28? It makes a 60hp difference right out of the gate.

You're not fitting those headers in a thirdgen, and that exhaust on the street isn't going to last long before your first ticket.

Some people like to run what they got.
What most 305 owners have is a dished piston, toilet bowl injected engine with 150k miles or more... Carbon deposits and bearing shavings holding hands to keep it from flying apart. You do that build on the average mileage 305, and you're going to be pulling that short block pretty soon, even if you aren't in jail for unpaid noise violation fines. Not to mention how your 700R4 and 2.73 rear is going to love that 850DP...

Go ahead and build up a 305 following their recipe, put it in your thirdgen and take it to drag week and prove all the "haterz" wrong.

Re: For all the 305 haters

All this thread does is perpetuate the stigma.
They, like any other motor, have potential.
Stop trying to prove what they are. It doesn't change what they aren't.
