Fitting two Buick GN turbos

Fitting two Buick GN turbos

Where are you guys stuffing the turbos? You think two Buick GN units will fit? I'm thinking of doing turbos on the big block.

Those turbos work great on a small block...but for that much ci you should probably go with a larger pair of turbos.

Thanks for the input. I'm more interested in the concept right now though. I'll size turbos later.

Here is what I'm thinking. There are two battery trays up front. Clean them out and use that space for the turbos. Run Tri-Y exhaust (space saver) to the turbos. I'm using a PA Racing tubular cross-member and I've got some room to work with. Drop two 3" down pipes down and under the crossmember and through the tranny tunnel. Mate up to a 4" single system out the back. Plumb the air outlet from the turbos in front of the radiator into the intercooler. I have to have the intercooler in front of the radiator because the big block is too tight up on the radiator. Exit the intercoolers out the top and through the metal deck area where the hood latch is. Similar to the IROC air cleaners, run over the radiator shroud and into the throttle body.

Does this sound reasonable to you guys that have prior experience???

sounds liek it's gonna be reeaaaallly tight...if not impossible honestly. Fitting twins with a small block is tight..can't imagine trying to fit the plumbing around a big block without going to a tube chassis. Custom building your own headers will be a definate.

Look at the "JSP Motorsports" link in my sig..thats my car. I run twin junkyard T3's. Most the pics are outdated, and at an earlier VERY much messier stage..but it might give you some ideas.

I know that big blocks are a lot wider, but are they much longer? Mounting the turbos real close to the manifolds/headers on the front of the engine would probably be most feasible. This isn't going to be a street engine is it? It sounds like you want to run a whole exhaust system. If it is good luck keeping it between the ditches! Check out Bod Reiger's(sp?) setup on his NMCA S-10. I got to see that run in person here in Chicago last summer. Very impressive.

big block twin turbo

leave some space for big intercooler too. i think 2 turbos only is not enough with BB. 3rdgen nose is long, you can put intercooler there?

anyway sounds like serious performance setup.

I never paid attention... at least several inches longer. I can't use an electric pull through fan. I have to use a pusher.

Absolutely a street engine. I have no use for something I can't enjoy on a daily basis. Don't take me too serious at this point. I'm evaluating the feasibility and how much effort I am willing to put forward.

Don't know if you know this or not, just trying to save you some time. Should you decide to get GN turbos, you should get both of them from 86-87 cars as they are better turbos.

You might also consider going for a single larger turbo. You'll get a warranty, have plenty of power, and you wont have to deal with the complicatoins of two turbos, (Dual intercooler possibility, lots of piping, special twin intake possibility, two down pipes, two cutouts/cats)

With the single, you will save a large amount of space, you can easily use a single intercooler (I suggest the Ford Powerstroke unit, it will barely fit you do have to cut a lot though) You will still get similar spoolup with that big block, but you will have to get an up pipe...

Just a few things to consider. If you haven't seen it yet, turbobuick.com has a parts for sale section that you could probably obtain the turbos from.
