thirdgen.org email addresses?

Dirk, what is the possibility of active members having their respective email address? example, robertg@thirdgen.org , or joeschmoe@thirdgen.org?

Doubt it would happen because generally you are reserved only a certain amount of email addy space for a domain. So only the elite members would get it.

Hopefully this somehow bumps it back up to the top, but Dirk can go here:

http://www.everyone.net/email_pcs.html

That way he can offer all the free email he wants, make some extra money, and it won't cost him a shred of server space. I am sure no one would mind having some pop up ads in their email, and for the guys using Yahoo! it wouldn't be a change anyway.

I would hope that Dirk is making a fortune off of the sponsors as it is. If not email me I can get you in touch with the right people to make a lot more money as thirdgen has so much traffic that it's not even funny. Do a camaro search on Yahoo... Who pops up? Thirdgen does over and over... I wish one of my sites had this kind of traffic... I would be a millionaire by now (or getting darn close to it)

Hope this helps, because it would cut down on spam and possible hostile emails received from some unruly individuals out there.

Hope this helps guys,

James

he could probobly do it for the moderators, On my site, which I dont own the server (Dirk does) I get 50 e-mail addresses. He should be able to do as many as he wants.

With the hosting I use I get around 300 email addy's, 300mb's of space, and unlimited bandwidth. Hooking all of the users up with email like that does a couple of things...

1) He makes more money just based off of the CPM ratio in the email itself.

2) He brings in more traffic. Viral marketing is the best way to attract more visitors (causing more cash flow). How many times have you seen someones website address in the email and actually went to the site? If your like me you do it all the time just to check it out. That's an extra hit, maybe several more impressions, maybe even a new member, etc...

3) He offers a new "feature" to the users of this site, without any server space.

Also message board threads do not take up a lot of space, maybe as many as this site, but what takes up server space is the images that people use... If you have the advertisers host the images on their sites, have everyone else host their images elsewhere, you have probably dropped 50% of the space being used. We all know how important dropping weight is

I know this post is too long, but I have been in the online marketing game for so long that I can see potential from a mile away

It's a cool idea, but not an easy one to get off the ground.

If Dirk could set it up so we were automatically e-mailed on topics with specific keywords, that would be cool.

Even cooler, would be sponsor specials e-mailed to us, like say if Thunder Racing above had a thirdgen.org discount on the Stealth Ram, we would all get an e-mail about it.

Same goes with group purchases, each time someone sets one up, we all get e-mailed about it.

Nice stuff, and it would be beneficial for Dirk to run with more sales being made. If he set it up as a browser interface like yahoo mail, he could charge sponsors for ad placement there too.

E-mail is one of the most powerful ways to advertise, and we are really targeted traffic for thirdgen's sponsors.

I wouldn't mind receiving e-mails like the above at all. Im interested in products/specials/group discounts. We all are, unless you fabricate everything which goes into your car or something!

i think if EVERYONE had an email address. it might slow the server down some.. but if it was a special feature for paying members....... $$$dirk$$$

breathment...

You can get everyone.net to run off of their servers :-D Great stuff... But honestly... I am not sure what kind of servers dirk is using, if he is hosting on his OWN servers than it might be a pain... but with a site like this paid hosting is the only way to go... I spend around 75 a month for over 150 domains, unlimited bandwidth and around 25megs for each domain.

I will agree with christos, if done correctly email marketing is the best, however spam is not... but dirk could sell ad space on say a weekly members only newsletter. Make a ton of money and help the community out.

it was a pain in the ***, having to deselect all the free advertising that they were gonna send you.

not worth my time.

i don't think that's the route to go here. i hate spam mail with a passion.

i should take a screenshot of my hotmail inbox so everyone can see all the **** that i get every day, yet didn't sign up for.

I have had my yahoo e-mail up since 98, and I get about 3-5 spam e-mails a week in it. Not too bad at all for how long I've had that heavily active e-mail.

I have another spam e-mail for everything else that I do which might sign me up for spam. (such as downloading a movie player which asks for an e-mail, all orders from online companies I haven't ordered from before, anti virus programs which request e-mails to download, etc. etc. Even program registration can get you on a spam list, especially, "who has a crush" kind of BS)

My spam e-mail has to be emptied once a week, 6MB's worth, about 600-1,000 messages a week in that one. Ive been online since 95, so I'm familiar with what will get me spammed and what won't. I tend to use my spam e-mail for nearly everything which asks for an e-mail address. Thirdgen.org is one of the ONLY places which has my primary e-mail address. Never had any problems. Most of my primary e-mail spams now come from people grabbing my mail.yahoo cookies. Really corrupt way of doing things, but besides 3-5 e-mails a week, it's no big deal.

Just giving out some tips on how I fight spam.

If dirk made the mailer so it had to double opt-in, I wouldn't worry about it. Spam is when you get random marketing e-mails with products/services you have zero interest in.

Perhaps Dirk could set us up with ourusername@thridgen.org, and it just redirects to our normal e-mail accounts. Sort of an e-mail bump, or forward. We could have our thirdgen.org e-mail that way, and Dirk wouldn't have to host anything. I bet there is a way to do this.

To sign up for it, you type in your e-mail address, and submit. It then shoots you an e-mail to your primary e-mail account, which you click on to authorize the service, providing you agree to targeted marketing, such as a thirdgen.org mailer each week or so, whatever it might be set at, maybe even monthly. I wouldn't mind that at all, check my e-mail, read the news letter, and find that a group purchase is going on which I want in on! How cool is that? Also discounts, etc. I go here to read about various thirdgen products, so I know what's good or not, so I can make informed purchases. Not the only reason I'm here, but I figure same goes for everyone else.

I don't think that would be too hard to setup. Providing that Dirk doesn't sell the list of e-mails to anyone, nobody would get any spam, just thirdgen.org e-mail addresses. I don't see Dirk letting things get out of hand with it either, just one mailer a week or so like was suggested above would be fine by me! Plus it would help out the site quite a bit by bringing thirdgen.org more money.
