Too many "stickies"
I know it's hard to get your message accross to some people but there are just way too many "sticky" posts on this forum. Some sticky messages are OK if they are temporary but recently they are prety much a permanent feature of all the boards. I think it is detracting and sends a bad mesage of "hey stupid, can't you do a search first" or "OK children, I've told you many times..."
I know many of us know the rules and took the time to read the user agreement while others can't care less, but please this is just too much.
Just my opinion,
-Ozzy

With all the stickies, you'd think people would read them but we still get people posting for stuff covered in them

This is your forum, do what you must, but don't discourage visitors by setting too any restrictions.

Let's see. this is a .org site which means it is not for profit. But there are sponsors that pay for the costs associated with runing this site. Those sponsors depend on traffic which means the higher the traffic the more exposure and more business. If people just visit the site once and get an answer instead of returning several times to check on their threads then there is less exposure for the sponsors. We know sponsors like lots of people visiting the boards posting the same questions because that is more money in their pocket and it also keeps TGO running.
Maybe we should ask them what they think.

The sponsors pay very little of the cost that it takes to run this site (except when Spohn donated the server) and having helpfull posts or saving people from having to search and ask the same questions over and over again that unneccesarily take up the server/bandwidth does not make people not come here LOL.

I don't know about you, but I get tired of explaining the different methods to polish rims over and over again. The stickies aren't going anywhere. Is it that big of a deal to just over look them if you don't need the information?

It was worth a try, but I certainly agree 150% about people asking the same stuff over and over. But some of those stickies just make no sense in keeping them there. I do overlook them and I think most people do, that's why they loose their purpose real quick. Other forums put stickies maybe for a week and when you see them you know it's something new and it catches your attention. Which is their whole intent. Leave a bunch of them on and no one will read the new ones because they get lost among the old ones. Doesn't that make sense?
I hope I didn't get anyone mad at me for bringing this up. We are all car fanatics and it's all about the hobby and being there to help fellow car enthusiasts.
