Can something be done about the search system please?
Not that this one is bad at all I just feel it has room for improvement. Like the 3 character minimum. Its hard to search for t5 gone bad or, v66, v8. I realize some 1-2 characters can screw up a search and find too many results but can you filter for these few words? Also, can you exclude searching through user signatures or at least make it an option. Just some helpful suggestions. I am by no means complaining, I love this site

It will be fixed when we upgrade the board to VBB3 in the next few months.
May I ask what exactly will be fixed? You can already filter out words, use 2 letter words and make use of the * for partial matches, though i realize it does increase the searchindex. Don't get me wrong, vB3 has a lot more, new, efficient features. Just don't know what will be "fixed".

The search system sucks because our site is HUGE.
In version 3.2 of VBB they're going to make use of MySQL's full-text search capabilities, so we'll be able to search the entire DB instead of just a table that's edited based on certain criteria.
If you guys REALLY REALLY REALLY want, I can install a full-text hack now that will give us the full text search, but isn't guaranteed to work right. If I do this, and the search is all screwy, we're going to miss out on a couple of days worth of searchable posts if I have to revert back to the old search. If doing this works, it will keep us from moving to VBB3 until version 3.2 comes out, which would most likely be mid-next year.

Yes, it does "suck" and there are never guarantees that any hack will work anyway. I was just pointing out that the option was already there, which was why I wondered what vB3.0 would fix in a few months. I am aware of several viable hacks due to I often work with them myself. Yes, your site is big compared to some. But the site I help admin hasn't been running vB as long as this site and I make use of the prune option which I know some hate to throw anything away
