Hey,

I was just thinking about this, so here goes. Most of us here work on one or two projects constantly and we ask questions as they come up. Every time you ask a question you have to give details and usually you never give enough.

I was thinking of having a backgound section, so people can click on your profile (or some other button) and see exactly what you are working on, even if it is 2 separate projects. That way you don't have to repeat your self with every post and you don't inflate regular posts with extra information which would be repeated anyway. But if a person answering a question wants more info, he can just click on a button and see exactly what you got in your garage/driveway/lawn/basement.

Signatures are good for this.

yeah, but signatures appear with everyone of your posts, so you really can't put too much in there. People typically put the engine/tranny/mods summary. Really big signature would make the message annoying to most people who don't want to read it and see it taking up most of the page.

just an idea, but maybe I should give signature a try and see if I can put something useful in there.

Thanks

Btw, dewey, your sig is *way* too big.. specifically the amount of text.. 21 lines (double spacing still counts as a line) is horribly excessive

EDIT -- hmm.. I guess that highlights VILeninDM's note about not wanting to make his signature too big. My personal advice is using hyperlinks in your signature to link various parts of the signature to various websites about the things you've done and/or are doing to the car.

Yes, that sig needs to be fixed.

Thank you, guys. This is what I am talking about.

I have a project car and I would love to list everything about what I've done, what I am planning to do and what I am planning to buy, so when people respond, they would have a context in which the question is asked. I just got one post there the person said, "well, I didn't know he was going to do that. All he mentioned was a 350 crate engine"

And that's true, I didn't mention, but if you mention every detail, you are a lot less likely to get a response that answers the real question you are trying to ask.

I agree that having links is a good alternative and I may eventually end up doing it, but it would be cool if we could keep everything in one board. Just have a small button reader can click on and get a summary, in a categorized way in a separate popup window.

And the post that had too big of a signature is still not what I would want to write down. It is only a brief summary of the mods and aftermarket components in a car. If you add things like how you plan to drive it, your goals, future improvements. I can see that thing getting even bigger

how often have you ever seen my sig? the only time i ever use it, is when i get asked about what has been done to the car, then I include it, instead of typing it all out.
