Post Counter is not incrementing

I have noticed that my post counter is not incrementing. At least I think it is not.

There are several forums that don't count towards your post count. This forum (Problems / Help / Suggestions / Comments) and the Classifieds don't count towards your post count.

Does it really matter? I respect people on this site based on the content of their posts. Not their post count. In my opinion, post counts should be turned off. I believe it would help stop all the worthless attempts to raise post counts (especially by some people in the apperance and detailing board )

the truth is the higher the post count the more the poster knows, well not quite but some people like to think that way. i too wouldn't mind the post count going away and replaced with membership date or a senior member status or something similar along those lines.

ya know, I figured someone would say something like this which almost made not want to ask the question. I could care less what my damn post count is, but I noticed something odd, and I figured I would seek out the answer. What I found was someone trolling for a place to put commentary.

I also say get rid of post counters. Literially. It is far to obvious that many children here think this is the "COOL" thing to run up. Funny, many people who joined in January or there abouts, wind up with a post average of 11 a day. Me thinks they would have something better to do. I doubt were talkin' quality too.

i actually like my low post count while being a member around here for many years.

As mentioned, it seems post count is mistaken for experience or quality. It also tends to feed into some sort of trivial game. i never cared for post count, it really is meaningless. It does not speak for experience, or even time around here.

Some forums use a rating system instead of post counts, which I think is a fairly good alternative. I believe it works where you can rate a member's post and the site puts together an average to rate that member.

Of course there's always a downside. A lot of people put "please rate me" at the end of their posts.

Newer version of vB has a reputation option.

i haven't looked a lot into that system, and while it has some logic to it, it is still hard to keep people from abusing any such system, unfortunately.

Thats one big contradiction right there.

I am also for doing away with post counts, but I doubt that will happen. Maybe someone could make the Appearance and Detailing board not count... that would help with some of the whoring..
