Mozilla Firefox browser crashes while at thirdgen.org
Might be another bug to look into...happened about 5 times to me already...will open a thread and the browser will start acting superslow until i can't do anything. I have to shut firefox down through the Windows Task Manager (Crtl-Alt-Del).

I read your post earlier and thought it was just you as well. However, I just visited a post in the LT1/LS1 forum of the motor swap forum and firefox locked up. Shut it down via task manager and brought it back up.
This hasn't ever happened to me...period. No other site has done it. I'll see if I can repeat it.

I couldn't repeat the error going to the same thread, instead I just opened a thread, hit the back button, and then opened another thread. I repeated this until it threw an error.
The first time it locked up, no error box showed up. This time I got one.
This has never happened to me on ANY site, much less tgo. I'm a system administrator and run a pretty ship-shape computer. Zero instability. If there's any info I can provide the admins, let me know. I definitely don't like thirdgen crashing firefox (especially when you have multiple tabs open).
Here's a link to a screenshot I took of the error:

Unfortunately, I don't think a screen capture of a generic error message box for FireFox will provide much help.
I have not had FireFox crash while on TGO, and I've been on the forums quite often.
I'm sure you guys realize that FireFox has a history with memory leaks, intermittent crashing, and even extensions destabilizing the build.
It might help to know what version you are running, and exactly what you do that leads up to the error, and even if there is a common extension that is involved.

Agreed JT. The windows error boxes do nobody any good. Here's what I'm running:
Firefox 1.5.0.1
Default Theme
No extensions installed
Windows XP Pro, all updates
I've checked in the event viewer to see if there is any pertinent information, and there doesn't seem to be. Just for reference though, here are the two events:
1)
Faulting application firefox.exe, version 1.8.20060.11112, faulting module firefox.exe, version 1.8.20060.11112, fault address 0x000f87e9.
2)
Fault bucket 260597273.
I am aware of Mozilla's prior problems, and have not witnessed this kind of issue on my home system. Nor have I witnessed it on a clean running system at work. If it happens again, I'll post whatever the event log says. Is there anything else that I can provide?

JT,
Let me add one more to 3.1EC's response. I'm running fully patched XP Media, Firefox 1.5.0.1 with no extensions and I've experienced multiple lockups. It has always required a hard kill in Task Manager. When It happened, the loading of a thread seemed to stall and then the browser locked. I was able to return and load the thread later with no problem. This has only happened on TGO, and only since the move to the new servers.
I've never had a similar problem with Firefox in the past. I regularly browse a large number of sites for work & pleasure with Firefox only. IE has been basished for use on my home and work workstations except for one site (a water utility payment system) that requires IE.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information or assistance.
Thanks for all the hard work,
Jay

Firefox locks up for me every now and then, on a variety of sites. There is no consistent way to duplicate the crash. It just seems that every now and then Firefox gets stuck in an infinite loop and takes 100% CPU. The whole computer slows down, not just firefox. I do not think this problem is caused by ThirdGen.Org.
I'm a network engineer working with Firefox for hours everday, if that gives any credit to my statement.

I'm definitely not the person for debugging FireFox, but for those who are having FireFox crashes while only on TGO, could you disable user's avatars in the User CP section? Under the Profile tab, set "Show user's avatar in their posts?" to NO and see if there is any change with FireFox.
Thanks.
Thanks.
