Online Junk Yard Catalog Post Removed?
I posted on the board the other day that I have been traveling around my area taking pictures of F body cars in my local junk yards. Approx 1000 photos and growing, of interior and exterior pictures of these cars.
I had the idea that I would make it my "Online Junk yard Catolog" or "Virtual Junk Yard Catalog."
I figured I could charge $4.99 for all this effort in traveling around, taking the pictures, uploading from the camera to my computer, uploading from the computer to the internet and emailing them out from there to those who want to purchase it.
Managing all this is a chore. But the pictures are all numbered for reference in the catalog so I can go pull the parts requested and sell them on 3rd Gen. Making parts from my area available to all members of this site. And believe me, there are alot of junk yards in my area with F Body's in them. You would all go nuts over some of what I find.
Somehow my post was deleted in 2 different threads.
I would like to know why? I see no reason to pull my post. Dave said I may have worded it wrong so that it was flagged as SPAM. I would like to repost this and sell the catalog that I have compiled. I will also pull and ship parts out to those requesting and paying for them as long as they are still available. We all buy and sell parts here all the time. Sounds like a great way to see parts and cars from across the country from your home. Alot of these cars ar being crushed with alot of good parts and in some cases almost whole. I believe more people could do this and even in regions.
My " Virtual Junkyard Catolog" idea has no overhead. No building, land, earth movers, employees, utilities, car crushers, or inventory of junk cars. You could even expand it to other makes and models like the SUV for example. You could hire a few guys to help pull parts, do shipping runs or someone to make contacts and run the computer end of things.
My area yards are happy to sell more parts!
I am surprized nobody has done this yet. And I am open for suggestions to improve this idea.
I believe this is a great idea and we'll see it more in the future in other industries even.
Does anyone know who deleted my post and why? Can I re word it better to not be flagged as SPAM?
With Administrator support I think members would benifit another source of parts. And Third Gen would be doing it 1st, before the other boards.

Is advertising some kind of problem? I don't understand? Helping others find junked used parts? Do you think it is a GREAT idea and do you think you would use it? How would you suggest I word it to stay away from advertising? How about " FREE JUNK YARD CATALOG WITH PURCHASE OF PARTS AND $5.00 OVER MY ASKING PRICE ! " LOL!
Seriously any suggestions? I really think it is very useful!

It could be viewed as you getting free advertising for a service/product(s) you are providing and charging for, while others here have to pay to advertise (see right hand side column). Those are called paid sponsors. They help support this website.
I think it can be viewed as you aren't just causally selling parts here. In a way, it appears more like a business model.
This really isn't something completely new to TGO and not really to do with Xoxide as it goes back to even under Dirk's ownership. If it is allowed, then paid advertising loses it's value on this site.
I am being a bit lack on details because we are discussing it and will have more information later.

sounds to me like hes trying to start his own junkyard business here. There are hundreds of 3rdgens in my area i could go get parts off of cheap and sale on here but i couldnt vouch for quality becuase i wouldnt know what the car had been through. Hes wanting a business on here then he should have to pay for advertising. Being from up north most of those are probably rust buckets and has very few good parts.

I guess It never crossed my mind that there are even paid sponsers. I was un aware of that. I am un familiar with running a board such as this and now it makes sense. It could be possible sponsering depending on the details and if it does well. Now I understand TGO' position. Go ahead and discuss it and get back with me on what ya come up with.

I think its great that you want to do your own thing.
But im a little nervous buying a part from someone who doesnt own such part in the first place. I think it would be a better idea for the buyer. If you had stock.
Seems like the parts list would be out dated before i got the list.
I think that if you get some stock first then that would be a good idea. Then list what you have for sale.
Just my thoughts as a potenial buyer.

Being a bit of a scrounge hound myself, I can attest that Thirdgens are getting harder and harder to find in a wrecking yard in ANY condition (compared to just five years ago). What Ray proposes could be a valuable service to someone who lives in an area where there are limited wrecking yards or having trouble finding a particular piece.
There has recently been a number of entreprenuers like Ray popping up at TGO. TGO needs to figure out how to address and encourage small entreprenuers like Ray within TGO's existing sponsor and advertising base.

my comment wasnt meant to be nasty just the fact is that up north they get a lot of snow which they battle on the roads with salt which rusts cars. Plus its a lot wetter weather. I was just saying if a 3rdgen is in a yard up north its more than likely a rust bucket and has very few good parts. Unless one was undercoated heavily and babied its whole life then thrown in the yard it will be rusty and most parts underneath and rest of the body will be rusty. Interior parts may be good but sitting in a yard id say the sun would take care of that.

Actually, many places "up North" don't even use salt on the roads. As a person who lives up North, we all know that salt is completely useless once the temperture goes below -5*C/+20*F. Instead, we use sand and require people to use a good set of snow tires.
Salt is more commonly used by places with moderate winter temperatures where the winter temperature is "just" around freezing, and salt is most effective. However, due to the environmental impact of salt, a lot of places avoid the use of salt entirely.

I think having a collective outlet to get 3rd gen parts is exactly what alot of ThirdGen owners would really appreciate. If it all works out and transactions are great and products are even better then all 3rd gen owners would know a reliable source to get parts.
I will inquire about this a bit more with the powers that be. Hopefully something can be worked out.

Thank You all for taking the time to read and respond to my post. I realize that some people may not wish to use this as a source of parts. Those that do will more than likely very satisfied. I am all about having a good report with customers. It would never suceed if that wasn't the case. Please keep me posted on what You come up with and hopefully move forward.
Thanks again,

This was a problem with Dirk as well, and should be addressed.
While not one of these people, the problem as I saw it was that there was a flat advertising rate. What this meant is that those who were offering services for a small fee would see all of their earnings lost to the advertising cost. The new admins need to come up with a scale, and decide on how to implement it: be it smaller ad graphics, text only ads, or ads that only appear on some pages or in the appropriate forum/forums only based on what the advertiser is willing to pay.

Thank You Goumba T for thoughts you shared, and your contribution to the topic of this post. It was very well stated.
I do agree that it is fair that there should be a cost advertising on this board and on some type of a tier level, especially if it is placed in the title area of the post, though probably not if it is within the post such as someone just selling a particular part or parts.

around my area they dont rust much takes them a long long time to. We have plenty of yards around with lots of 3rdgens. You cant go anywhere in my area without seeing at least 3 3rdgens they are very plentiful around here. If someone wanted to be a junkyard scrounger they should do it around here would be rolling in them. I dont have the time to but maybe some other members would. When i move i thought about posting an ad in the trade times here saying i would remove any junk f-body for free i bet i could get at least 2 cars a week. Some people do that now around here id say they make some money.

And they should make some money doing it, otherwise it would probably not be a priority in their life, nor would their good deeds for free last for very long.
Everything else would likely become more important. Why would someone for example, go pull some $35.00 door panels and sell them for $35.00 plus shipping? And do that sort of thing over and over for free. Someone can do that all the time if they like, and we would all take advantage of their generosity but most people would rather pay for the commitment and promptness of the person they were dealing with and compensate them fairly for the products and services they recieve.
Just my thoughts.

well the problem i have with this issue is what about the people in your area or mine that may wreck thiers or have something break or something else. They will try there junkyard first and if you go in and take these cars apart and sell them here then the people in your area wont have any parts. Fact is you can already get anything you wont for your car here just post a wanted ad and you will more than likely get about 5 diff people with what you need offering an excellent price including the shipping and no labor added.

Hey 1BADROC, where do You think alot of the parts sold here on 3rd Gen come from?
So you see, if You or I buy parts here on this board, but people like me didn't sell yard parts here on this board, then You and I would buy up all the parts here too! LOL ! The junk yards are for people who need used parts. What difference does it make where they live?

a lot of people has no clue of this site and need the yards. Most parts on here doesnt come rom the yard they come from peoples cars that has been wrecked or got hit. Or like my parts i have 2 parts cars to fix up one but on i only need some of the parts. None of the parts im selling is from the yard. Someone on here is wrecking there car or someone is hitting someones car every day almost or someone here gets a parts car from a grandma or something and sells the parts they dont need. I picked up my parts car for 300 was repossed bank never came got it in 7 years so i didnt get a title just bill of sale. The car is flawless except paint makes a great car for parts its just a plain firebird but it has every option except v8.

In my area they crush 3rd gen cars almost whole, with engines, seats, plastics and whatever dosen't sell quickly. There is a machine that seperates all of the plastic, steel, and different kinds of metals and fabrics. These cars are being destroyed with really nice parts. I am saving those parts upon peoples request. Theres nothing wrong with that.
You mention that you have 2 parts cars, where will they be after you pull all the parts that you need? My guess is the junk yard, unless you wanna keep them around forever untill they decompose into the earth. Or maybe you'll pull parts untill there's nothing left but a molecule or two. LOL !
If theres nothing left on any of the cars, why would people go to the junk yard?
Would you rather the parts get crushed and destroyed, while people on this board struggle to find what they need?
I would rather help keep this endangered species of an automobile survive.

well for one id rather get parts thats not from a yard. From the junk yard a lot of parts are trash just from the fact that most of the cars in the yard and there for a reason. 1 parts car of mine is pretty much mint except paint but no title. The other is a 4thgen with the passenger side banged up also no title the previous owner didnt bother with a salvaged title becuase its not a ws6. The cars will be nothing but subframe when they go to the yard. nothing will be left im cutting the quarter panels floor and all out. I will be able to load it by hand. Im sorry your state is retarded and crushing cars that will be classics they tried in va but they couldnt get it passed. In most cases tho cars in yards go bad fast everything dry rots fabric fades plastic cracks to pieces and the body rusts away. As for the engines you can find 305's and 350's everywhere. The junkyard themselves will get the valuble parts like the tail lights headlights to if its a bird. The hood The t's seats if nice ect... They are in the business to make money they wont leave many good parts on the car anyway. Why would anyone bother paying someone to go to a yard to pull parts when they can get them without a labor fee from someone here or go to there local yard and ask themselves.

I think this conversation needs to be taken elsewhere. This Board is for "Problems, Help, Suggestions, Comments" (which initially RCAR had and we are dealing with it).
But 1BADROC, you seem to want to make it a discussion on the "Pros & Cons" regarding junk yards. If you wish to continue with this discussion, then do it with each other via e-mail or PMs.
