Sounds to me it might be local (your provider, backbone, etc.) and not TGO. The original poster had posted on the 15th when there was a noticable slow-down on TGO. The issue has not, to my knowledge, been present for weeks - atleast I have not experienced anything drastic for the past few weeks, excluding the 15th as mentioned above.

If you can barely do a search, and it's been an issue for weeks, then there might be something wrong with your computer, ISP or routing to TGO.

How do i test that stuff??TGO seems to be the only place i get this jerkiness/lag.My last speed test the other day was a 6950 down,360 up.Comp is a HP with a 1.7 cel,640 ram, twin 40g HDDs,using IE6,and only constant running programs is spybot, norton's antivirus, and ati driver catalyst.Pretty fresh format and restore too.Would appreciate the help.Ty

What do you exactly mean by "jerkiness/lag"? Do you mean that once the webpage has finished loading (as indicated by your browser's status bar), do pages not smoothly scroll, and text not appear immediately once it's typed? If so, that's nothing to do with connection speed, and more so to do with a known problem with the current template that TGO is using. It appears to impact IE users the most, but not all. With so many template changes by Xoxide, it's difficult to narrow down the culprit.

If you instead meant that pages aren't loading quickly, then that could be a connection issue (local or backbone) such as packet loss.

That said, aside from the 15th as I mentioned above, I have not noticed any speed issue. Yes, there was a major problem yesterday (17th) with the forums not updating content.

Well since TGO has switched servers with the current owners it has been very slow imo, but in the last 2-3 months it has been working smooth. Now I don't know if mediacom has fixed anything on my end to make my internet load faster but like I said lately I have noticed TGO working great on my end.

the header and pics up top load fast...
but then theirs always a noticable delay for the actual php page section.

its obviously not the connection speed..... i just assume its the speed that the webserver can process the php or the speed of the SQL server that is the current restriction.

in anycase, its not unbearable, but it is slow enough to be annoying at times.

Mediacom recently raised their standard residential HSD tier from 5000/256, to 8000/512. However, they had a lot of problems with their VoIP phones, and therefore, they rolled back the upload back down to 256bps. You still should have the 8000kbps download (less when figuring overhead). However, browsing online, the speed difference is likely not noticeable.

If we're talking about lag in the sense that typing text doesn't immediately appear, or it has to catch-up, then that has been traced to a template issue and appears to be present on some computers and browser, but not all.

When I revert to the standard template, or the Retro template (that has much of the same additional coding as this current TGO template), the lag is gone. That's why I believe it is something in the template. With the amount of changes that Xoxide implemented in this template, finding the culprit (if so), is quite difficult.

Is there a way for me to change the template myself? I type 60+ words a minute and the lag while typing is unbearable. I find myself giving shorter answers or not typing at all just because of the lag.
Have you done a compare of the Retro template vs the current template to see what is different? Since you say that are similar, there must be one or two different things in them you can try to narrow down the problem.

The site is incredibly slow tonight. I click on a thread link and then "Waiting for www.thirdgen.org..." for about 10 seconds or more then the thread will slowly open.

Yes, there appears to be an intermittent slow-down tonight. Web server load looks completely normal, latency to the server looks normal. With the current setup, there are variables that aren't so apparent. So I'll drop a notice to the crew.

I have noticed "the crew" aka xoxide have not posted in awhile. It seems they dont really care...as long as people keep coming to this site all is well in their eyes.

While that could be interpreted that way, that really is not the case. While they did step back a bit (public presence wise) to allow us some "space" to continue to develop like TGO has all these years, I still have communication with the Xoxide crew and they are still involved with the site and it's future. They are still keeping the site in mind.

I do not work for Xoxide, but I'm present. Feedback/ideas and problems can be posted in it's proper place, or directed to me, and we will review. I've been involved with the site nearly every single day.

Perhaps the problem is in my computer itself. I'm typing on my wife's computer right now. Its a brand new 3 Ghz P4, and there is no lag or slow down while typing. My computer is a 1.7 Ghz Celeron. I'm currently upgrading it to a 1.8 Ghz AMD with twice as much memory and hard drive space. We'll see how this site works after I'm done, tomorrow.

It took a little longer than I thought to upgrade my computer. I kept getting errors when transferring the old data to the new hard drive. But I'm back up and running now and the verdict is in. It looks like it was my computer that was slow, as now its much faster to type and browse the board than it was before. I apologize for my previous comments.

The forums did go "offline" yesterday evening, which came after period of noticeable slow down. The forums being "offline" (database error message) was a global issue, not an individual one.

The site is not running slow for myself, it appears to be running normal.

Have you made any changes to your computer, software wise?

I've been having issues as well with speed as was pointed out graphics load fine but then the rest of the text takes forever for it to load.
this is both at home and at work and it seems to happen most any time of the day.

Re: site very slow

I'll triple and fourth second all the above.

This site runs way slower than any other automotive site I frequent, perhaps with the exception of Ls1 tech.

It is extremely annoying.

My DSL in my apt aint the greatest, but it does this at school(houston) and back home in chicago as well with cable acess.

later

Just an FYI, we're aware of the issue and it's being reviewed. Sorry I can't provide much more beyond that at this time.
