Any way to get rid of the ads?
Re: Any way to get rid of the ads?
I would suppose the only answer here is possibly a paid membership to view the forums without ads. Are you willing to pay for membership to not view ads? Ads aren't going to just disappear because we don't like them. The ads are there to support the cost of the website (bandwidth, software license, hardware) and of course profit as the parent company that owns ThirdGen.org is a for profit business.
Re: Any way to get rid of the ads?
Hrmmm, can't find the paid member option. You would think, being a "for profit" organization, this option would be easily accessable. (Or I am just blind.)
Re: Any way to get rid of the ads?
I can't say it's an option on the table, at this time, but if there were any that might remove the ads, that would probably be the only avenue due to the reasons I previously stated.

I use Firefox plus an ad block plug-in. It's all free. Ads on most websites simply drop out and you don't even know they were there.
If you don't have firefox get it here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
Then get the plug-in for "Adblock Plus":
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
While you're at it, add the plug-in for NoScript which hardens firefox even more (it's already good) against security threats:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
For sites that you want to support by viewing their ads (like TGO), you can disable Adblock Plus on a site-by-site basis.
Cheers.

I'm am member on 67-72chevytrucks.com and they don'y have any ads.If you're not a member ther's ads but if you're a registered user or a paying member there's no ad's,and that's a privateley owned site unlike this one
Re: Any way to get rid of the ads?
But I don't really see how that has anything to do with us. Each website, privately or business owned, will operate different. I don't see this changing. I doubt the majority like ads, however, there has to be some sort of revenue involved (ads and/or paid membership) to pay for expenses and to bring in some profit for the owners involved. I should also clarify I'm not exactly speaking of our "in-house" ads - such as Hawks, 1A Auto, etc. They directly support ThirdGen.org and the vehicles we are dedicated toward. They also help people find parts for their vehicle from sources they may not have heard or known about.
I don't exactly like it myself, but I understand both sides as this site is not free to operate. But I find a way to not only deal with it, but to contribute to the community as a staff member.
Thanks.
