Motor Mount Clamshells

Hey I just got some clamshells for my engine but I have a couple of questions about them. First I don't have any bolts to bolt them to the engine. What size will I need? And second, they seem very similar but there are minor differences. Does it matter which one goes on which side? Oh by the way they are 3rd gen V8 motor mount clamshells and they are getting bolted to an LT1.

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

I hope someone will correct me if I'm mistaken, but it seems plausible that they are different to slightly offset the engine toward the passenger side, for more steering linkage clearance.

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

Yes you are correct, it moves the motor left to right about 1/2 inch. The passenger side mount is 039436. Driver side is a longer number, dont know it off the top of my head.

I would think any bolt would be fine aslong as its a heavy grade bolt and fits the hole

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

Are we sure it's 1/2"?
I just got my new Moroso 62510 mounts and 62610 pads, and the mount parts, which replace the clamshells, are identical for both sides. The pads, which replace the rubber parts, may be 1/8" difference, but sure aren't 1/2".

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

1/4-1/2......I had issues with header clearance on frame rail. When I had it reversed

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

So if it's 1/4" off center, then swapping sides should be a total movement of 1/2" for your experience.

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

Last night, putting the new Morosos in, I realized we have it backwards. The valley of the crossmember is not symmetrical. It has a wider shelf under the steering linkage, beside the driver's-side coil spring. So the mounts offset the engine towards the driver's side. The net result is still a bit right of center, however.

The Moroso pad mounts (62610) are stamped DL (driver/left) and PR (passenger/right).

The numbers on my clamshells are 33497 and 14039436. Any idea which side is which?

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

140... Is definitely passengers side; I just installed my engine and it only fits one way, especially since I'm using solid motor mounts. And I tried both ways to be sure.

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

I didn't know there were any solid mounts for the stock clamshells? Are those identical, or marked for which side they go on?
I do know you can't mix and match stock parts with the Moroso parts.

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

I'm using the stock clamshells with solid frame mounts from spohn. I bought them with a k-member but I do think they also work with the stock k-member.

The stock OEM mounts put them off to the passenger side. Why?

Guess that's why 14039436 has LSP stamped on the inside of the bracket.....oh wait.....could that possibly mean Left Side Passenger?

No wonder so many people mess this up........140 has LSP stamped right on it on the inside. It is there to let you know to put that mount on the Left Side Passenger. I know that left depends on where you are standing but the P is for passenger side.

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

That's weird because in my GM manual when it says left side that's the driver's side (as if you were sitting in the car).

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

I here you. That must be why there is much confusion on this. The OEM stamp is a Large L sp sitting on the L maybe just Side Passenger don't know but if you swap them your engine will be crooked is sh*# if you get it in at all.

Re: Motor Mount Clamshells

My new motor is sitting lower on the drivers side. Could this be my problem since I put in new polyurethane mounts?
