Re: Different intake setup

Original plan was the truck e 1500 3 inch tbi air filter and a flipped stock lid but it wouldnt fit. So i ordered the mid 70s 12 inch corvette air cleaner lid and it cleared the hood just fine....haven't driven car yet but its different. Looks good IMO

Re: Different intake setup

So you spent extra money to defeat the OEM cold-air system, which for about ten cents could have improved your power level. You've wrecked the OEM heated-air system which in cold weather could prevent carb icing and potentially improve mixture distribution.

At least you've got some shiny chrome that no one will see until you hop out and pop the hood open.

The engineers are laughing.

Re: Different intake setup

I take it youre another one that thinks the open element mod is useless.....maybe it is. I have no proof either way. The factory cold air setup is like sucking a milkshake through a straw. Quite sure its not cold air either once it passes through that 190 degree air cleaner once heat soaked.

Does a 305 NEED more CFM?

Re: Different intake setup

There is only one CFM that matters. Enough CFM. Anything more CFM than enough doesn't matter.

It also matters that those CFMs aren't 230 degrees Fahrenheit.

Absolutely! The original snorkel air cleaner is hardly adequate for the 2.8. Let alone the 5.0. You do lose the benefit of a “cold air” intake though when you make the switch. However multiple members have posted different methods to help get you more airflow and still retain the benefits of the stock system. I have been running a 14x3 open element and have not noticed any negative changes in the way my engine runs. I have noticed that it revs a bit quicker than when it had the stock air cleaner.
