smog delete
my 90 iroc with a 350 had the ac compressor lock up, so a shop deleted it and put a bracket with a pulley. now the car can be driven. now i had the cooling fan not wanting to turn off so took back to shop. they discovered that the smog pump had been removed by previous owner. they put on a pulley in that spot, but with no bracket. do they sell a bracket to put there or will my current setup hold. car has a serpentine belt.

Re: smog delete
Lots of factory idlers are done that way. I wouldn't think it will be a problem. But you can actually just delete it entirely and route the belt differently if it scares you.

Re: smog delete
if the belt is routed differently does it cause the water pump to spin the wrong way? shop said something about clockwise vs. counterclockwise?

Re: smog delete
Seeing as how the A/C compressor is likely the highest load on the belt drive system, and it's been deleted, it's probably OK.
Personally I'd run either of the two GM delete pulleys available, or just run a shorter belt from the A/C delete to the crank. Any of those three options beats throwing a generic pulley onto a mounting ear that's not really intended to take that kind of stress.

Re: smog delete
I have the smog delete pulley on my serp setup and it works great. Personally it looks all lopsided if you don't have a pulley there. But functionally it's the same. Dealers choice.
