TPI to carb swap

I have a 83 El Camino with a 4 barrel carb 305, motor is bad. I found a mid 80's 305 with a TPI. I'm told the TPI is not supported and should just replace with my intake and carb. What problems am I walking into, TPI is complete with comp. and wires were cut when pulled but all there I'm told. I do understand the heads on the TPI are not the best but just doing a driver.

Bolt it in. The heads are not any worse than your factory heads. Depending on the year you might have to angle the center manifold bolts.

The 416 or 081 heads are better than yours.

So, your saying the carb may not bolt up to the TPI intake? Same years stock motor within 3 or 4 years, '80 - '85 - could swap intakes, or what about a spacer?

There is absolutely no way the stock carb will bolt to the TPI intake. You will have to use your stock carb intake and bolt it to the TPI motor.

Re: TPI to carb swap

wouldn't be too hard to actually pull that off lol, simple machining. just not sure how much material would be left after you mill the ridges on the top of the TPI plenum off. Probably wouldn't run well at all if it even did run lol

Didn't have my glasses on when I started the question. I'll see if I can take it down. I wonder why a "SUPPREME MEMBER" didn't question it?

It’s common for a newb to Post in the wrong section.
It’s about carb intake should be in the tech engine section.

No reason to take it down. I think its' gotten to the point where... not that the moderators no longer care, but that members are very fluent w/third gens in general that almost anyone can answer a question not really related to a specific sub-forum. It's really no big deal. I remember once upon a time when threads were deleted on the spot if they weren't even third gen related, but nowadays they are much more tolerant and you'll read about trucks having issues, or need tuning advice. For good reason too because there was a decrease in traffic, and a lot of members have either moved on, and some even passed on. Damn I feel old now lol...

But having dedicated (exclusive) sub-forums makes the overall forum much more organized, and therefore makes SEARCHING for an answer much easier.

God knows it hard enough getting people to search before posting a question as-is.
