I need to get inside my centre console to fix some of the terrible aftermarket wiring on my car, but I am stuck at trying to remove the gear shifter button without damaging anything.
I have googled it, but always seem to come up with instructions for a different model/version. Here are some photos to show what I have and what I already did - can anyone tell me from experience with the same version, how to remove it safely please?
Many thanks!
Alex
Before I started Pulled the shiny button cover up and off Press the larger part down, the smaller rectangle will twist around but seems not to unscrew or do much else when twisted to 3,6,9 or 12 o'clock positions...???
Any chance you could share a photo showing this, or a description of exactly where to look for the staple/clip?
I believe the shifter came stock with the car, which is a 1991 base 3.1l V6 Firebird. However it has an earlier steering wheel so the shifter could have been swapped too. It's the year with the ugly wing mirrors, so GM probably chucked on anything that was in their parts bins that fit...
