Here is my 509 bbc. I made the headers on a frantic rush after a sbc to bbc swap and needing to get the car back out racing asap. Qfp 950 brawler on top

Think you'll make the move to a more conventional header arrangement in the future?
While I appreciate all of the aspects of the forward facing header something in my old traditional bones looks for the old school approach.
I didn't much care for the Super Comp version of the big block swap headers (as installed on the 86 TA/502 BBC swap) as they swoop out to the rocker panel area however seeing as that you can build your own....

Its fun to tweak and tune.. with good gas I can push 15 lbs.. I've reworked the orig design enough to allow for the extra boost.. Did you also fit a Pontiac block into your 3rd gen?.. I used the RH battery box and stock 1980 wiring harness, all my stock gauges work.

What do have for headers on that monster MSgt? The 86 TA with the 502 BBC had (still has actually) Hooker Super Comps. Very difficult to manage on the bottom side.

Doug's went on the "fleet" 69 C10. Nice headers. And tri-Y too.

Stock air intake. Not planning on changing anything. This has a Rochester carb. I was surprised but this car is about as original as it gets

Export LG4 305. Edelbrock Performer 2101 intake, Accel distributor, M4ME Quadrajet, Lunati 420/443 cam, 1.5” headers. The air cleaner “just” clears the hood liner with the intake and fresh engine mounts.

i built the new headers and full aluminum under-car exhaust in spring of 2020. I also recently built some tailpipes out the back at the end of last year. check out the video on the tailpipes here

Have a 1984 Trans am with very low miles. 5.7 liter engine, carburetor with air induction. I will post my car shortly, but I am looking for the rubber adapter between the breather and hood. are they available as after market?

Hey @BBCSwap . That's pretty slick and exactly along the lines of the CAI I'd like to incorporate into my own carbed 350.
I see a TPI filter case with the snorkel. What housing is that on the carb? What diameter? Is the filter there or do you use the twin TPI elements?

Re: Post Your Carb'd Motor Pics

Skinny Z, the air cleaner base (15.5") is from an 80's truck air cleaner that takes a 3.5" X 12" air filter. The typical truck air cleaner with the big snorkel. The lid that came with the base was way to tall to be able to close the hood. The lid is from an 80's Buick that is a lower profile lid. I have the base set as a 7/8" drop air cleaner. I had to do a lot of get it red hot with a torch and shape it with a ball peen hammer so I could lower the base around the carb. After the lowering and the lower lid I still had to grind (shorten) 2 of the hood blister bolts and massage the hoods reinforcement rib just a little (1/8"-3/16") to clear each other. I am using an Edelbrock RPM manifold. A lower manifold would help. I had to shorten the snorkel length and shape it to fit the TPI boot. Basically shape it with my hands. The truck air cleaner snorkel was wider & narrower than the TPI boot, message it with your hands to make them match each other. I am using the TPI filters. With this set up I was concerned that the air cleaner lid was closer to the top of the carb than ideal. The lid is about 1 1/4" above the top of the front of the choke tower & about 1 3/4" above the rear of the top of the choke tower. I took it to the drag strip and made 4 runs. One of the runs I took the lid off to see if I had a restriction and it made no difference in my time.

An 80's truck you say? Never thought of that. I'll look into it. Thanks.
I've been considering these guys:

And this case specifically.

That housing would do the job and allow for a "traditional" 14" x 3" filter.
Thing is, that Ram Air Box part is $200 (USD). Which translates to nearly a million dollars Canadian...And they're Canadian based!

The TPI inlet would be without the filters but I'd modify it for a 4" outlet much like Chad Speiers did.

As for fitment, I have several drop bases to choose from although that truck part you posted would be a stand alone.
I've tons of clearance. With the cowl hood, I can fit a 14" x 4" open element with a medium dropped base (7/8') with room to spare. (And it's not an extreme cowl either but wide open underneath.)

Thanks again. Yours is possibly only one of two I've seen with that approach. I'd much rather go that route than adapt the hood to replicate the cowl induction of the late 60's / early 70's. Think Chevelle or Z28 Camaro. Lots of work to pull that off though.
That said, there are several fine examples of that being done here at thirdgen.

Ain't all shiny but it runs good!

Running a 355 l/hr intank pump with my homemade bypass regulator set at 4psi. Got TPS too for TCC control.
And,

Idle speed control. Reversed the A&B coils to push the throttle arm for speed increase.
