found the limits of the stock driveshaft
found the limits of the stock driveshaft
took my driveshaft back to Houston Driveshaft to have the balance checked on it. When I went to pick it up the guy told me he wouldn't rebalance it again. They had to straighten it before they could balance it. Told me I'm getting close to twisting it and that I need a bigger one.
Good and bad problem to have I guess. Good because I'm putting down the power, bad because I don't want to risk a good launch now until I get a new one, especially with the new clutch and tires

unfortunately no, had to leave the car at the shop. turns out I had the backlash set way too lose in the rear. the dial indicator I had used to set it up was a piece of **** and had a lot of slack in the base for it, that I didn't know about until after I set it up. the gears called for .006-.008" of backlash, there was at least .025", but I think it was actually closer to .05"+. under acceleration everything was good, but as soon as I let off the gas, you could hear the gears "clanking" together from the slack. this was all done on jackstands, I didn't even know about it until I pulled it in because I wanted to find the vibration, which I think turned out to be the driveshaft. glad I pulled it in now.

Not that i claim to be putting out as much HP as some of U guys, but where does the aluminum driveshaft fall into the catagory as far as how much HP it can take, before starting to deform/twist? Mine is the TPIS alum. driveshaft. Are they stronger or weaker than the OEM steel DS?
the TPIS shaft is a 3" one correct? while Aluminum is weaker than steel, a 3" Aluminum d.s. is stronger than the 2.5" stock steel one. I'm going to get a 3.5" stainless steel one made over Christmas.

It's the TPIS version. I'll try and remember to go to their site and look!
