I was in for eight years..get up to a hundred push ups, do the 1 1/2 mile in 13 mins and make sure you are not over wieght. And you will fly through Basic.
There aren't too many places for us to run to or too many foxholes we can dig when on a ship. But we do have to be physically fit for running up and down during general quarters. This is truth....the Navy has the better schools and training we are very technology advanced
I was in the aviation part and it was great I was an Aviation Eelctronics Tecnician worked on Navy jet radar jammers EA6-B's. We were stationed in Washington state (damn the weather was cool) and we were attached to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. We did our cruises in the Med' been to Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Spain etc.
My daughter is going in too she is 17 and is spending the last "free" summer with her friends.
Like anything else the Navy is what YOU make it. Good luck Bro...

I'm gona have to call
on the "better schools" part ..... if you were to go down to Pinsicola Fl. right now and walk into (if you could) any of the aviation training schools for the Navy you would find Marines there as well......... SLP as far as your weight the Navy has some of the toughest weight requierments to join ..... now once you get in that is a different story.... I am a Marine recruiter so I MUST ask..... why don't you look into the Marines?
My Dad was in the Navy back in Vietnam....... he was a Navy Seal..
.... I have a cousin that just retiered from the Navy after 20 yrs..... 15 of them as a Seal....... so I know alot about the way things are in the Navy right now.......... make sure what ever it is that you do that you do it because it is what you want...... any questions feel free to ask.

I am saying saying Navy schools are better because..I was hired by a RETIRED Marine over a ****load of other guys simply because of my Navy Electronics training. He is the first one that told me how the civilian world feels about our training. The company ? Martin Marietta here in NASA. This was one of many places that have made this commment but you are active so you must say what you have too.
The Navy is the better choice for traveling too ! NO OTHER service can offer you trips to the Mediterranean then four years later trips to the Orient. No not talking about being stationed in ONE spot either.
And I thought the Navy requirements were a little soft
I don't mean to be an *** but how can you know how "things are in the Navy right now" ? Your Dad Vietnam, your cousin retired after 20 yrs. Neither one is gonna have the faintest idea how the lower rank guys have to live, work and survive..they have already made it to the top, lucky guys.
Well don't mean to start a war but you do sound like a recruiter
SLP look over all the services and choose the one that is going to give you want YOU want. Good luck man..

zap 89 I wasn't calling
about the schools....just the fact that the Navy has better schools...... I do see your point about knowing how things are now in the Navy.....as far as travel goes there are very few Navy ships that don't carry Marines on board...... SLP I agree that you should look at all the services and pick the one that is best for you... we all have some thing different to offer.......good luck in what ever you decide to do if you have any questions about the Marine Corps feel free to ask ... if you need info about the Army I know of a good rec. that will shot you straight and take care of you.... as far as the Navy goes I don't personaly know any that I would refer you to. Good Luck

I was in the Army for 8 years. The Army is the worst. The Marines are a step above. Navy and Air Force have the best schools, the "cushiest" jobs and are more highly sought after in the civilian market afterwards. IMHO
I can't help you in regards to how naval BT is, I know it is just like they said, what YOU make of it. If you go in to get in shape, learn some stuff and be a better person in the long run, you'll be fine, regardless of what branch. You'll still be in harms way whether on a ship in the Med or the sand in Iraq.
I'll never mess with a Marine; I have way too much respect for them and what they get taught in BT. It takes a unique individual to be a Marine. I just think that blowing stuff up from 30+ miles away is WAY cooler. Explosions are cool until you're too close to one. That takes all the fun is out of it. Shrapnel gives you a new perspective on life as well.
