Front End Rebuild
Well I started a front end rebuild went with all Moog parts replacing all steering linkage including a-arm bushings, ball joints, struts and sway bar bushings. I am keeping stock springs oh...and I put 4 new Yoko AVS ES100'S 245/50/16.
Sonar I read how you went about getting your springs out. I didn't quite go that route (WITH THE BOARD) what I did was wrap a chain around last two links of spring and frame and put a bolt through it.
Then put a 3 ton floor jack under the a-frame. Then I removed the innner a-frame bolts and lowered the a-frame....man was it a SNAP !!
I will be finishing tomorrow I am taking the a-frame to a shop and having them press out/in bushings and ball joints. Then after all together get it aligned.
Man I can't wait to feel what it will be like with a smooth ride

i dont know if you saw my thread about my car. i just did some suspension work myself, springs included. I got my springs out a different way than my chiltons manual told me. I took my struts off, took my sway bar off, and loosened my tie rods. i made sure it was pretty high off the ground and i let the arms fall down. it wouldnt fall down quite enough by itself so i hooked a rope around the ball joint and pulled it the rest of the way, the spring just popped out. it was pretty cool. real easy too.

Well I was going to get the ball joints and bushings pressed in and out but when they said $186 I about fainted
I took those SOB's home put them on the ground with 2x4's and had them out in 10 mins NO JOKE !! I used a tip from one the board guys I used the small sharp pointed fork from the ball joit remover set and of course my favorite 4lb sledge. Putting them in took 15 mins I didn't want to hurt anything.
It was TOO easy.. O'Reilly's didn't have the Sway Bar bushings so have to wait till 10:30 tomorrow when they come in to finish the project.

OK 34MM sway bushings are not common items
I went ahead and ordered those from TDS and since I am not finishing as quickly as I had hoped. I went ahead and ordered some Eibach Sportline springs, should drop the front about 1.6" and the rear about 1.3"
I went ahead and put Monroe's on the front and will get to the back shocks next weekend.
Man between all the bushings, ball joints, shocks and springs this damn thing better handle good

Springs
Hi,
How can you tell if you have standard or aftermarket springs?
The reason I ask is a few weeks back I jacked the car up to do the brake pads and noticed spacers in between all of the springs.Like a clamp in reverse.
Its as if they fitted lowered springs and then found they were too low.

Well I am no expert but, I think you would have to take out the springs and measure them.
My stock ones are 13 3/8" tall.

Well after waiting for my Eibach Sportline Springs I finally finished my front end this weekend and had it aligned yesterday.
Man what a difference in the ride !! It still is a hard ride but not the bone garring ride it was..I like it and those tires I had were real bad, the car sat for a year and a half and the flat spots on the tires sure made the cruise down the freeway bad
Only problem now is my air damn sure scrape more than it used too.. oh well trade off. I'm ready for the meet

Great to hear it rides well. I'm thinking of re-doing mine in the next month or so. Funds permitting, I've noticed my car seems to drift a lot on the freeway and the steering is not that accurate.
Going to start gathering all the parts up. I'm lucky with the job of removing and reinstalling the bushes as a friend has a press for bearings etc.

Well Aldixie watch how low you go. Twice I forgot to go at a crawl backing down my driveway and scraped, now my exhaust right under the passenger floor board is rattling
Doesn't sound bad just loose, hope it hangs on till Friday.
Aldixie glad you have a press to use..
