There seems to be some interest in getting a thirdgen group together and doing a "Dyno Day". I know there are a number of different places with dynos in the Hou area. And I know I can go look in the phone book and find some of them, but if anybody has suggestions or has had their car dynoed in the Hou area, at a place, that U would recommend, (even if U know a place that U can NOT, or would not recommend) please let us know and let's see if we can get this organized so we can get a group rate/discount.

Also, post in this thread, if U would be interested in participating in Dyno day!

Hey Mike--since I know u have tuned and dynoed a number of cars in Hou, would like to hear from U as well, and if U would be interested in being there to tune some cars that day?

Question: Would it be better for U to tune a car at the dyno, or to do the chip before the dyno, on a seperate day, and do the final tune on the dyno?

I know that now that I have my exhaust cleaned up (new Y-pipe--old one was severally crushed-- and delete cat) and everything is finally done. i would really like U to be there to put that "final tune" on my car, that U wanted to do. I would be more than willing to pay for your gas and buy u lunch, if U do not have any other tunes lined up for the day! I know that my "butt dyno" says the car is a little stronger since i got rid of the exhaust restriction! Mayb with the cutout open and a little more tune, I can get into the 13.3's--with my personal best of 13.42 in warm weather, that 13.3's in cool weather is pretty close!

 

auto logic over on 610 and 290 is a pretty good place and could probably do us a good deal if we can get enough cars or I could talk to g-force over in pearland about some kind of deal we can do there but whereever we go we would have to have a sign up and a minimum of probably 10 cars to get a good group rate

As long as it's on a REAL dyno (not a hub dyno) I'd be down... I spent like 100 bux making 9 passes at Conleys here on my side of town while tuning the turbo setup...guys over there are good at what they do. Went from a dinky 157hp to 190whp on a mustang dyno with a heatsoaked intercooler at 7 psi... that's jsut with him playing with the timing. I think conleys charges like 50 bux for two pulls, adn 25 extra for wideband... might get ahold of them adn find out what kind of group rates they could do? Theirs is the Mustang dyno, the type that lifts the car up and stuff.

 

What's a HUB dyno?

 

Aw, they take your rear wheels off, adn bolt the hubs to a thing called a dynapack... it's two little mini dyno thingies... not very acurate way of measuring WHP though... It's new stuff apparently, adn alot cheaper thna conventional dyno. But I'd rather use dynojet/Mustang dyno.

I dyno'd on a Mustang Dyno before, and I've heard they are the best as far as "accuracy" and getting a realistic representation of being on the road. Dynojets are more for high dyno numbers in my experience. I dyno'd 320 RWHP on a Mustang Dyno, guy said I'd put down about 360 on a Dynojet.

I went up to ARD on Saturday and was talking to Owen and he was telling me that when my car is finished that he is going to have it tuned on the dyno so I will call him back this week and see if we can get some kind of discount. I can see if we get enough people how long we can rent it for. Jay if you read this, you talk to Owen enough, could you run this by him also?

 

Did Owen have any particular shop/place they he prefers to use?

yeah, that's what my dyno operator told me. I put down 190 whp with a heatsoaked intercooler on 7 psi (with other problems), and he said to figure on 14% more for a dynojet. I seriously need to get my little rocket back on a dyno though, allt eh bugs have been worked out, adn the boost is where it should be (making enough power to obliterate an Lt1 Formula by many car lengths from a dig, and outrun an Lt1 Vette from a 50 roll).

 

Well I took a new job with Union Pacific and i'm stuck in Omaha till April, and after that my work schedule will be unknown. BUT if at all possible I would come run the old bird for a few pulls.

I just want to see what a bone stock 88 L98 with 230k miles will put down. If it did better than 180hp I would be happy.


Put me down for a "I'll come if at all possilbe" and i'll check this thread at least a couple times a week.

 

Do you have any followup info on this yet? Im getting my Pro-System Carb and wolud lik to get it on the dyno before I go to Korea for a year mid March.

I did some dirty work and look at different shops in the area , but not sure who has a dyno except Conleys, which I thisnk is a reasonable price.

MTI - (Motorsport Technologies Inc.) has a Dynojet with updated software. This is where you guys should dyno your cars.

 

I've been there before, but I wasn't very impressed by their customer service or attitudes.

 

Screw MTI. There are plenty of other shops I would go to before them.

I dyno'd at Horsepower Engineering, I think was the name of it, up off of 249. Great place, nice people, cut my brother and I both a deal when we had problems on the dyno.

 

Yea, they suck, but they have the nicest Dyno machine in Houston.

ya thats me... but since last month no one is allowed to dyno their personal cars because someone got hurt on the dyno..... right when i get my car ready!!!!!! they might be opening it back up next month but i would still like to go up to conley's with everyone....
someone with an S10 with a 383 and stock driveshaft was on the dyno on the driveshaft broke, flew out the rer of the dyno room and hit someone in the foot across the driveway, not sure how bad the guys foot got hurt but from what ive been told they will be making safety rules

Well, that explains that....I was wondering why U did not take advantage of the free dyno at UTI, since U are attending UTI!
