Why do you want a harness? Is your factory charging harness damaged?

Re: Painless Wiring??

I had the same problem with my car when I bought it back in 03. When I switched to carb I just decided to make my own harness for my fuel pump, Alt, Fan, and guages. I run them all with the custom switch panel that is attached to my shifter console that I got from jimmy jams. The only wireing I kept from the original harness was the body wiring and A/C stuff in case I decided to go back one day.

Re: Painless Wiring??

I run a 12 circuit that mounts in the trunk for my entire car. Works great and very easy to do. Engine can stay in, just rip out all the interior and you will have it done in a few days. Solder and shrink wrap and you will be workin like a pro. I love painless kits. My car has 0 stock wiring, just like everything else. (nothing stock)

Check out my CD site if you wanna see pics of every step of the way. maybe a cup of coffee though. takes a while to get though 4 years of work

Re: Painless Wiring??

So why not keep the stock chassis wiring? I can see a reason to ditch the rest of it.

Re: Painless Wiring??

I lie starting from scratch with stuff like this. No shorts, all new wiring, everything labeled, very nice when adding things or trouble shooting.

Re: Painless Wiring??

Gm column 12. I like mounting it all in the trunk cuz I have a custom cover that I made. If you are staying with a stock config. Get the normal 12 GM column. You will be happy with that after you get it and spend a couple hours with it. You just do it step by step and take your time. When you are done, everything works and you never, just about ever blow a fuse or get frustrated with wires ever again.

sweet now the big question will a person whom hates doing electrical work think its hard or easy, cause i fn hate electrical work, especialy paying for it. I do need to invest in a soldering iron, and heat shrinker.

Wow. Just look it up at summit. Takes literally 20 seconds. Type you typed here, but in the search on the summit site and BAM! This shows up.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

and the extra long one is this.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Sorry if I come off a bit rude, but building cars takes a lot of work and more times than not, people are only going to point you in the right direction, not hold your hand the whole way.

excelent questions.

I to am an avid hater of electrical work. No way will you want to pay someone. It is stupid easy and you don't need a heat gun.

I used a solder that I got at home depot for $10 and whatever solder I could find. Then to heat wrap stuff I used a propane torch set to low and passed it over the wrap a couple times. I have done thousands of connections this way. Needs to extention cord, looking back a heat gun would have been nice, but propane was in the shed so I used it and have grown acustom to it. I may buy a heat gun soon when I move out and get my own place so I finally have one. But you def don't need one.

I have ZERO formal training in cars. And I built my car myself from the ground up. All I did is follow one rule.

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS

If you do that and call the companies when you get confused, a monkey can do it. Very easy. Time consuming YES, but easy.

Re: Painless Wiring??

no that is cool, I went to the painless website and was unsure if I need the harness with the steering wheel stuff or not. Didn't think about checking out summit. Sometimes the indirect way is quicker.

Oh and try solder splices. They are heat tubes with solder in them. with a heat gun super fast and secure wiring connections. they rock.

Re: Painless Wiring??

I worked for Siemens on ITS for several years and we bought them bulk. I think most of those places would have it. We used graybar for smaller amounts and I found a graybar in every city I worked in. Just did a search on their website and found them. Graybar is like a toys r us for me.

I have used Painless wiring and another company called EZ wiring. Both easy to install my 1950 Chevy has the EZ wiring installed using a 12 circuit for the main chassis and uses a painless wiring kit that I picked up for $50 new at a swapmeet for the injection system. The EZ wiring kit runs at around $125 to $150. Every wire is labelled at about 12 inches printed onto the wire, its very easy to install.
