Re: Cruisin' video
I'll get a pic of it mounted up there tomorrow. It mounted to the top edge of my front license plate. So my plate is still visible, so I can't get harassed by the cops.

Re: Cruisin' video
Or maybe....just MAYBE, I'll go get a pic of it tonight...or I'm just impatient myself....Here ya go!
It's a flat aluminum 1/8" plate I had laying around. 4 bolts holding the plastic box SECURELY. 2 bolts holding the aluminum plate to the the license plate. Yes....I did drill 2 holes in the plate & the license plate holder behind it, for those 2 bolts.
There is VERY little shake in the video, despite it being a secure mount.

Re: Cruisin' video
I'm fabbing me up a rear camera mount, so I put my camera on either end.
I might just get a pair of wireless video cameras, and a 7" LCD screen, then I could hook up my laptop, and record at will.

That was alot of fun. Too bad we didn't get any footage of me sliding around that wet corner. I guess I need to get a camera too.

I wish we had roads like that where I live, everything is flat and straight
Great idea for camara placment, the rear mount gets the exhaust too, very nice. What kind of camara/where can I find them/cost?

Re: Cruisin' video
Thats pretty sweet! I'll have to put a bend in the backing plate so it will fit the front of my IROC.
How did you do the plastic covering though? Heat plastic and bend it or did you happen to have a piece that fit the camera?

Re: Cruisin' video
It it EXACTLY the same height as the body of my camera, so the top button sticks out through the hole! With the zoom in/zoom out/button that sticks up, the button on top sticks through the hole I drilled to reach the button. When I slide it in place, it kinda "pops"in place, when the button hits the right spot. I thread in the tripod mounting bolt from below, and it's locked in place. I hook the wrist strap under another mounting bolt, just in case the tripod mount bolt on bottom comes loose, acting as a safety. But the mount bolt hasn't loosened, so I probably don't need the safety, but will use it anyways.

Re: Cruisin' video
Here's a Mapblast of the road. I put arrows showing the start (Volente) & end points, and did a quick red line showing the road. And I put in a green line, showing the new road they put in to avoid the twisties. I think they were tired of digging bodies of the side of the road.

Re: Cruisin' video
The twisties took us 13 minutes. Granted, we were booking it, but maybe 20 minutes, for a "normal" driver?
The straight shot is like MAYBE 5 minutes.

Re: Cruisin' video
Since I cant get at my car right now I think I'll just draw the back plate and crude looking camera for my drafting class. I figure I'll draw the bolts and front bumper and stuff and make a video where it puts itself together. The teacher lets us draw random things just so we stay interested and so he can give us a grade. One kid drew and engine with a cutout so you could see the pistons and crank and such move. It took him all semester but he got an A+ and a lot of attention from all the teachers.
I'll ask around and see if any one has that video. It probably got deleted though since the hard drives at school get deleted over the summer.
Also, my camera has a big lens that sticks out when it turns on (see pic below). Since I don't have a plastic box that will work, do you think I should bend the plastic to fit around the lens or just put some foam in that space?

Re: Cruisin' video
That's how my lens does....pops in & out, motorized. I used my Dremel to cut all the holes in the plastic box.
Since it fit snugly inside the box, I just slid it in, used a marker to mark on the outside, where the holes should be, took the camera out, and used my Dremel to cut away the marker marked section. If you can't cut the plastic away, I'd wonder how the plastic would distort the picture. Use a razor blade/Exacto knife, if nothing else.
My buddy, the blue camaro in the front, flipped his license plate down, and put his camera mount on the back of it.on it. I got me a Camaro flip-down license plate bracket, so I can do the same thing as a rear camera mount on my GTA. 8)

Re: Cruisin' video
I made one for the rear today.
As for where/how the camera mounts... I used an OLD license plate (from the 89 GTA we stripped), mounted it backwards to the car, using the stock mounts, then mounted the Camaro flip down rear license plate mount to that. That way, ZERO mods were needed to the car itself! I simply drilled a bolt hole through the legal license plate, same as the way the camera mounts in the box on top of my front plate, from below.

Re: Cruisin' video
I no longer had the pics, nor had the front plate even mounted anymore.
So I set it up (sorta) on my front plate on the couch, to show you. Can't exactly take pics of the camera in the box, when the camera IS in the box. And I even tried in a mirror! No luck
Basically, it is a plastic box that my camera slips in to. Has a big hole for the lens to pop out of, 2 holes on top to reach the on/off button & zoom in/out button. And 1 hole on bottom, to put the mounting bolt that holds the camera to the plastic box.
The box is mounted to a flat aluminum plate, with 2 holes near the bottom, that allow it to mount to the front license plate mounting bolts.
Any of that make sense?

Re: Cruisin' video
You can buy a polarizer or a UV lens for your camera and it will kill that glare and reflection from the windshield. If you can't find one to fit you can buy a piece of polarizer glass from a photo shop or the net and simply tape it to the camera. You'll lose about 1 to 1 1/2 stop but your auto exposure on your camera will compensate. FYI all cameras should have one of these lfilters on the lens,it helps protect it from damage. If you drop or scratch it, all you replace is the filter, not a complete lens.
