Houston Organization

Hey everybody, i was up in Dallas yesterday for the NTX third gen meet, and got to thinking on the drive home last night.

I know there is a lot of interest for 3rd gens in Houston, look at our thread for the July 25th, and then there are some threads about "hey who's in houston", "lets have a get together", "ottos", "kemah-now hooters", and some others out there. I know that there used to be a large, pretty active houston group, and since Since "Zap Racing " passed (as far as i have been told/observed) houston has kinda of lost its organization. i know that mike(1bad91z) has taken the lead for the july 25th meet, which is looking like its going to turn out great, and eric(ESC) runs the HFB email list, but we dont have any "houston 3rd gen" group.

the NTX guys have officers/raffles/sponsers etc. which is cool ,but WAY over the top for anything down hear untill its more established in a couple years or more. i was just curious if anyone was intersted in trying to get something small started down here? some of the older members know more about what was down here so if you guys could give your two cents that would be great.

the ls1 guys(most of the time) arent real keen on hanging out w/ 3rd gen guys, vette guys do their vette things, 1st gen/older muscle really doesn't like/fit with us to well form what i have experianced, rice... lol, so what im saying is i'd like to have a club/org to belong to in which im not "the guy with the fairly nice third gen, thats still a mu11et machine..."

What do you guys think? if you think im crazy thats cool too, let me know!

Re: Houston Organization

i think it would be a great idea to get something together. do cruises and meets. be able to not only meet people but to hang out and do more things more often. i know that when i had my chevy truck and only ls1tech was around we did a lot of things, and then perftrucks i was a mod and we set a lot of things up. we went to the track a lot.

Re: Houston Organization

I don't know how much of a responce there would be, but it sounds like a good idea to me.

I could supply an e-mail list server or a message board...I 'm already hosting both right now. But I don't have a lot of time for running it right now.

For that matter...if it started off as a child of houston-f-body.org we wouldn't even need to buy a domain.

Good thing i think, we have several good members, but i am only liking my fellow hard core third gen enthusiasts, not the young punk who think they are cool because they have a f body.

I am on third gen number 12 i think....i dont know if anyone here can touch that.....

amen. i have helped a buddy build a 11 second thirdgen and now i am building mine slowly. loved the body style for years. we do need to try for the hard core people. they will be the only ones that will be willing to forego the steps to make this work. AND NO WHINING!!!!!!!!!

Re: Houston Organization

It will come down to this: Are members willing to "take turns" going to other parts of town to attend meets? I have been scouting the area meets lately(Hooters Nasa Rd1,Otto's,Nifty 50's,2920 crowd, etc. and let's face it,it requires an entire evening and at least a 100 mile round trip to make different meets. I also tend to be the lone Third Gen at these meets, and let me tell you, there is a serious interest in our cars. So maybe we can say do Otto's one evening one month,Hooter's the next, and so on. Any other suggestions?

And I'm a old dude who wants to be a young punk in a Third Gen.

Re: Houston Organization

I was 16 when I bought my Camaro.

But I think it is more of an attitude problem than an age.

IMO, it's OK if you don't know what you are doing, as long as you don't try to pretend that you do.

There is no helping the new young generation, they are heard headed and want to do as they wish, i understand what you mean, but there is no making them love these cars the way we do.

i agree with yall, we need some thing down here for all the guys and gals into 3rd gens.
Maybe the ones to the north could start meeting up at 24 hr fitness in atascacita on 1960 or some thing.

Re: Houston Organization

Although home (where, in order of importance, the car, wife, and
dogs are ), job-site is DFW, and week-ends are alternated
between here & there. I've hooked up w/ the NTTGA crowd, and
they're an active organization. I have noticed, that most of the
members are located relatively close, geographically. Thats a
problem for us Houston folks, where our TGO supporters can be
more than an hour apart.
On Houston week-ends, I would certainly support meets, cruise-ins, etc.
Perhaps the best thing is for some-one to step up, call a meeting
somewhere, and then interested parties must fish or cut bait.

Some related observations...
The NTTGA group is having trouble finding places to meet.
They want a reserved space, but tend to NOT patronize en mass,
the hosting establishment. So its understandable, that businesses
don't want their parking space consumed by free-loaders, detracting
from their paying clientele. Back in the day when "Zap" took point,
for the meetings I went to, the group actually patronized the
establishment (Hooters, etc.). If all you want to do is congregate
around the vehicles, brag & lie, something like a mall parking lot
might work better.

PS:
ants, one92, & sail -- we're geographically close.
Next time I'm back will be the 27th. Wanna commit
to something somewhere?
-- beer & wings at NASA/I-45 Hooters
-- Kemah/Chick-Fil-A (whats the status there?)
-- T-Bone Tom's/Kemah

On the South side of town the Nasa Road 1 meet is the place to go. Lot's of room and when you get hungry for food or mental nourishment Hooter's is right there. Good crowd,no knotheads, and a variety of cars and trucks.

I totally agree! I'm 25 ,on my second 3rd Gen and have been a member of TGO for a few years now. I love TGO, heck even came here when I was inbetween 3rd Gens and was driving a 4th Gen for a little while.

Sad thing is, I haven't been to a single car meet yet

I now live in the Tomball area around Cypresswood and 249, but I used to live in the apartment complex in Spring right behind the Conn's and saw the Friday night meets all the time. I wanted to go, but a bad paint job plus (from what I could see) alot of rice kept me from showing up.

But anyways, I'm a Die-Hard 3rd Gen fan thats tired of not knowing anyone else with my passion. Count me in! I'll do my best to get out to wherever yall decide.

By the way, what about the Willowbrook Mall parking lot??? lol

I find they generally "know" it all. They "know" they need to get rid of all the smog stuff, even if they have no understanding of how any of it works. After they've done that, they "know" that they need to get rid of the ECM and put a carb on it since it won't run right. After they install their 1000W amplifier, run it from switched power, and cook a bunch of wiring; they "know" the third gens are all crap and can't be made to run "right" and the wiring is no good.

So there will be one third gen!

Thats kind of lame. Well, I'll give it a try.

Maybe I can stir up some delusional "LS-Lost" owners.

The full shebang will set you back 1000$ or more(1000$ is a good deal actually), yes it will fit and run great.

Re: Houston Organization

Let me try to catch up here.

The Kemah Chick-fil-A is dead, but has been resurrected somewhere
on NASA1, in proximity to a Hooters. I know of 2 such locations:
There is a Hooters on NASA1, very close to State 146 (Seabrook?)
There is a Hooters on I-45 access very close to NASA1 (Webster.)
Which one?

I offered the Webster location as a suggestion. But if others want
to commit to the Seabrook location, I can handle that -- next
week, on the 27th. Would like to meet you guys then.

Re: Houston Organization

I went to the NASA1 and I45 (Hooters) meet last night. I got there about 6:00 and there were 10 other cars. I stayed until about 8:00 and there were probably 60 or 70 cars. I didn't see any other third-gens.

The traffic getting there sucked. With the freeway construction, I ended up siting in stop and go traffic for about 20 minutes getting in and about the same leaving.

There were some nice cars. I saw a '67 convertible 6-pack 427 'Vette which is one of my favorite cars of all time.

I did not like that there was no where to sit and no shade. If you wanted food you had to walk over to hooters and either eat there or bring it back to your car and stand in the sun while you ate.

I like the Otto's meet more. No traffic jams, shady places to sit and eat are provided. The number of cars (yesterday) was about the same. The "quality" of cars was similar.

I won't be going back to the NASA 45 meet again until the freeway construction is completed. Having to spend all that time in stop and go traffic, on a hot day, with no AC, really sucked.
