Unfortunatly I wont be going to the meet the weekend before. Sundays are never a good day for me to do car stuff. But all the questions you have about the Houston Cruise up to georgetown would probably be best placed here:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/sout...eorgetown.html

I live in Spring, so I'm only a short drive south of you. I set the meeting place for all houstonions @ 290 and 610 because its pretty centralized for everyone in the greater Houston area.

These Austin area guys are hosting and doing a good job of getting it together, lets take a little off their plate and get the Houston guys to worry about how to get there ourselves without involving them more than we must.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

NEWSFLASH!

All of our possible parking problems are solved! The starred lot is the old HEB/Albertson's/(whatever it was) parking lot which is completely deserted. I see no reason it couldn't be used for a few hours. And in only about a 100-150 yard walk to Duke's. We'll have like 3 times the parking that we even currently need.

Yes. 2 entrances are blocked, 2 entrances are open.

Follow the green lines. They show entrances that are open. Apparently, I need to redo that map. I *thought* it was clear to understand.

Hilarious.....

We are on the access road of the Interstate. How bad do you think the roads are?

And my car is plenty low & I have zero issues, except for speed bumps, which I just go at idle speed over.

+1 on this question

is one entrance better than the other in regards to speed bumps or steep entrance ramps? i've got about 3" clearance ( i know) and i don't do speedbumps... im sure we'll all be able to get in, it'd just be nice to know the best option before we get there

3" where? Tranny? Oilpan? I'm low & I have 6" at the nose & 25 5/8" at the front fender lip just above the hub center, and I clear parking curbs. I've never measured underneath the pans.

This pic is deceiving......

I'll go check where speed bumps are on Monday, and put them on another map for you. I know of one speed bump, but I can drive over it with no problem. None of our speed bumps are very tall or crazy. And for anybody that will not do speed bumps? They can park at Duke's. No speed bumps over there.

my spohn t56 crossmember is the height of a tennis ball off the ground. my air dam is even less than that (it's ok for it to scrape, just gives you an idea of how low i am) the exhaust will be rerouted but the crossmember hangs down to the top of the tennis ball in the pic you just cant see it.

I'll allow you special permission to park over at Duke's with me. I'm parking over there for a different reason......Not to avoid the speed bumps.

I wondered about mine, so I checked.

I measured my tennis ball & it is 2 3/4".

I have a stock y-pipe, and it looks like with a 3" y-pipe, I'd probable be about the same as you.

Plenty over my muffler, which is a Magnaflow bullet version under the rear seat location.

The very nose is over gravel (driveway) right now, rest parked over the concrete of the car port, so I couldn't check my air dam clearance. I was really curious about mine, after seeing your pics! Gonna check the air dam clearance, when I turn the car around.

Yep!

Should we get some printed up? "The ThirdGen.Org OFFICIAL Ride Height Measuring Tool" (don't tempt me)

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

But it really needs to be the same size for accurate comparisons.

If 9 other people are interested, I would pitch in $30.00 for 10 with the "Oficial 3rd-gen ride height measurement tool" logo.

Maybe we should start a group purchase thread.

BTW, could we get any farther off topic?

I don't like the idea of some parking one place, others another and everyone leaving their cars to go to a restaurant. Eating is one thing, but having two groups in different places is the wrong idea.

If we use the overflow parking lot we should ALL use it.
If we all park away from the restaurant then we should get our food to go and hang out where the cars are. I couldn't care less what the inside of the restaurant looks like, but I do care to carefully inspect what everyone else has been doing to their cars.

BTW, Stephen should I be planning to bring my EZ-UP(is there shade?), a couple of chairs and a cooler of beverages? My guess is yes.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

I know of at least two people that will be there that have physical limitations, and they will want to park closer. another option for that is to have somebody volunteer to shuttle them to Duke's front door. I volunteer to be at the disposal of anybody who doesn't feel like they can walk from one place to the other.

I like the idea of getting in and out of the restaurant fairly quickly, but BBQ isn't good for grab and go, and we don't have the organization to have the parking lot catered... LOL

I bet the way it will go down is people will spend very little time actually sitting, and hours gawking and talking

I'll be there a good 30-45 minutes early, just to remind then that we are on our way. And maybe give them a heads up a week or 2 in advance too, so that they can plan on cooking more than usual on that day & having the extra food on hand. Not just for that day, but until their normal food delivery date comes around.

If we parked at Duke's, it would be great to have assistance in "blocking off" part of the parking lot for our group to park in. Need to talk to Duke's about doing that, but I doubt they'd have any issues with it, if it is getting them 75-100 people's money! If we park at the empty lot, then there will be no problem.

It would be easy to get our food "to go" & just eat in the lot, but then we don't have easy access to the condiment/drink/dessert bars. I'm sure we'll all have coolers & such with extra drinks in our cars anyways, so that part is easily handled.

There is NO shade at the extra & only a small "trees" at Dukes. So if we're outside? We're in the sun.

Good idea on the chairs.....I'll bring my one fold-up chair & my cooler (which I had planned to anyways).

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

Guys lets not make the eating and running, and parking in 2 lots a bigger issue than it needs to be. People are likely going to park in whichever parking lot that best suits them, and thats cool. People will eat as fast or slow as suits them and gather to talk cars in the same manner. As long as we can all agree that once we are done doing whatever it is we plan to do at Dukes, we all head to the HEB or whatever parkinglot, with our cars(if they arent there allready there). At that point the real state wide gathering begins.

People will be trickling from the resturant to the parkinglot for a while, but as long as we all eventually end up in the same place, with our cars, thats what matters, right?

For what its worth, I plan on parking at the HEB, eating and enjoying my food(I eat slow,I dont have whatever gene it is that allows people to shovel a whole meal in their mouths in under 20 minutes). Once my plate/belly has had enough, my wife and I will head over to the HEB and talk our gearhead mouths off until there is a decent body of Houstonions ready to head back.

I dont mean for this to sound bossy, its just an attempt to give people something to work towards rather than trying to get everyone to agree on how to do it.

As long at we agree that parking at Dukes is a temporary thing and everyone plans to eventually be in the same place, I'm OK with it.

I will plan on bringing my EZ-Up and a few chairs. That way, if someone wants to get out of the sun, sit down, enjoy a cold beverage and talk about cars I'll be all set up.

The next task should be to contact the old HEB parking lot owner to see if we can even hang out there. Nothing spoils a meet more than the cops running us off because the owners didn't approve. If someone provides me the number, I can figure out where the home office is and contact them. I have had success in getting approvals for our local(ATGO) gatherings with proof that we're not a bunch of young, rice-burner drifters out to cause trouble.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

my ...I'd like to see everyone park at the HEB parking lot and when you feel the urge to grab lunch, just walk over and grab some grub. I'd like to think that our cars would be safe with all the members around. I highly doubt that we are all going to eat at the same time An idea would be to ask the person parked next you to watch your car while you eat. The idea of a "split parking lot" kind of defeats the purpose of having a statewide gathering. Like I said this is just my 2 cents, I'm lookin forward to the event and I really hope that I'm able to make the 4.5 hr trip.

But that would also cause it to constitute "trespassing" if anybody went there anyways. Or them saying "Sure......For a rental fee." Then we HAFTA find a different place to park. We'd only be there a few hours anyways. Georgetown isn't that **** about harassing a bunch of "hot rods".

It's wide open, not blocked off.
I see a few cars parked there during the week, where people join up & carpool into Austin to go to work.
I see OTR 18-wheeler truckers parked there, but it is big & easy for them to park in there, leave the truck for a day (or two or three) & have their spouse pick them up there.
It's empty. It isn't any kind of business strip center where other businesses utilize the parking as well.
We could just say "Park at Dukes". But where are we going after we eat? We can't sit around taking up up 3/4 of Dukes parking lot for hours, after we are through eating. That is just not right to do to a business.

On a side not.....
I added to the map, (at the bottom in red) that there is a car wash behind the abandoned store, kinda next to Dues. So if anybody wanted to wash road dirt & bugs off their car or vacuum their car when they got there, there is one right there!

That would be excellent since I live here (B/CS). Just outside of town is Lake Bryan, large parking area, lake, camping, park(swings, etc.) even a stage for the live band.

I was just thinking it might be cool to tip off an Austin TV station or two as the event draws closer.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

The big parking lot has only one speed bump & there is one entrance with no speed bump, so no worries!

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

I see no real reason we can park at Duke's to eat, then just move afterwards.

Duke's is expecting us, so it won't be like they won't have enough food to feed a mass invasion.

I just don't want to occupy a large part of their parking lot after we are done eating. No sense in loitering & taking up their lot. Besides...It'll give everyone a chance to let others hear their car!

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

I dont mind parking at Dukes, but... I got 13 white marks in the passenger side of my Monte Carlo from where someone bumped the $%^& outta it day after day while I lived in an apartment. I dont want that to happen to the firebird, so I always park at the back of parking lots and take up 2 spaces. I'm not sure thats going to work at Dukes. But I would feel safe and not need to take 2 spaces if I had F-bodies on both sides of me.

The swap meet would be a really good idea. I am looking for some parts anyhow, and would rather buy from local folk.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

So the plan is still Duke's, then off to the empty lot we go correct? Stephen, should we get an updated count by PM? Also, anyone planning on staying overnight in the Austin area?

I was gonna start sending out PMs like next week or so, but the board only allows for 5 to be sent at a time. 90 people divided by 5 at a time? That is a lot of PM'img to do.

I'm gonna PM JT & see if there is a way to mass PM everyong "registered" to come or PM more than just 5 at a time.
