Re: My First Third Gen
LOL a six pack huh? my mechanic was gonna take a look for me but itll be a few weeks before he can make room in his shop. I havent checked the spark plugs as i dont know much about cars...all i know is that if i were to pour a little gas in the carb itll kinda fire up for a few seconds and rev when i press on the gas til all the gas is out of the carb i guess...the tank is now full of gas because i thought it may have been empty...other than that it just keeps turnin over but wont fire. After i kept trying for a while yesterday, when i turned the key it didnt even turn over anymore...id have to wait about 5 or so mins before it would turn over again...i have no idea what it could be

Re: My First Third Gen
Thats weird that you have to wait to even get it to turn over again? When you wait is it turning over strong or slowly? See if you have any trouble codes with the paper clip trick. It could be any of a number of things. Lots of people would love to help but your going to have to do a little trouble shooting.

Re: My First Third Gen
sounds like a fuel issue.. my bet... the fuse for the gas pump is blown or the pump itself is bad... has to be a fuel issue because when you feed her straight down the carb it fires up and runs until its out of fuel... Looks like a daily driver so prob not a whole lot wrong with the motor.... good clean up wouldn't hurt but not bad for the money...

Re: My First Third Gen
Fuse box is under the driver side dash. Fuel pump realy could also be bad. That should be mounted to the firewall.

Re: My First Third Gen
Its an edelbrock carb on it i think...atleast thats what the air filter says...an yes its a regulator...when i got it it was turned all the way to 5...i played with it a little and tried all the settings with still no luck...and to replace the fuel pump theyll have to drop the tank which also means cutting my exhaust i think

I think it's the air cleaner that's Edelbrock. You might be able to drop the tank without cutting the exhaust. It's been done before! Good luck!
Nice project car for the money, have fun!

Re: My First Third Gen
fuel pump on these cars are on the frame rail outside of the fuel tank inline .... atleast the three camaro's i've owned have the pump there... if you need a relay i have a couple spare .... I'd check the fuse and then turn the key on and check for voltage at the pump...

Re: My First Third Gen
Looks like a solid car man, if you were anywhere enar me i would take a look. Carbs are simple and it is all i run on my third gens dues to being cheaper, simpler and making more power. If it fires after you pour fuel in the carb, you need to remove the fuel line to the carb and place it in a bottle, have someone spin the key over if it has a aftermarket fuel pump, if it has a mechanical, you will need to turn the motor over.

BUT, i am willing to bet someone use the stock fuel pump and you do not have a return style regulator, sooo....you burnt up the fuel pump.

Re: My First Third Gen
You might want to pull the dizzy cap off and pull the number one plug and check the initial timing. Slow cranking can be a sign of to much advance in the dizzy. Just a thought.

Re: My First Third Gen
Nah I think his slow turning motor is probly a dying battery and nothing more.. although it is a good idea to replace the cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires and coil... that would give you a better idle and better gas milage anyways plus give you the chance to clean up the top of that motor...

Re: My First Third Gen
Sorry 4 so long without an update fellas...we finally figured out what was wrong with the car...the damned PO switched it over to carbed but left the electric fuel pump on the car...somehow gas was getting in the oil and when we finally got her runnin it caught fire. Luckily nothin was damaged but we went ahead and got a mechanical pump on it and redid the fuel system and got everything sorted out...wasnt too bad (except droppin the tank, which was a B***H) but she was runnin like a dream...for about 15 mins then the darned temp gauge goes all the way up....the PO also ripped out the thermostat and fan relay so the fan wasnt comin on...had 2 turn around and drive her right back to the shop...parts ordered and almost finished gettin installed...hopefully ill have her back by the end of the week...updates comin guys...ill keep u posted...and thanks again for all the help...most of u were right

Re: My First Third Gen
hey brother you know i have extras of that relay and know the wiring really well... if you had asked for some help and i'd of given you the parts with pigtails which would help me clear out some clutter... oh well i hope it all goes well for you. I do have some interior black panels if you need them and some other various parts just let me know... also as far as the gas in the oil goes...you sure the rings aren't bad? sounds like maybe you have some blow by

Re: My First Third Gen
I could definitely use any of the interior pieces u have....my interior is in pretty bad shape...dash, door panels and center console all cracked, seats carpet all torn/stained, headliner ripped out, and the rear hatch doesnt have the arms and the damn motor wont pull it down...so ya...i could use alotta parts lol. What else u got?

Re: My First Third Gen
i have a new set of lifts for the rear hatch... kick panels in black and rear arm rest in black... and some spare parts to rebuild the rear hatch motor i think... I got a guy that does my upholstery work and is fairly inexpensive... had my seats (front and rear) sun visors and headliner done for around 900... pretty good since everyone else wanted like 2300 and i got to pic exactly what i wanted him to do for the price... got pictures of them on my profile.
