I haven't been to the "G" since G11. It just got way too 4th gen heavy. Kinda boring. Good to see that's changing. Might try to make it this year.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

I went to G14, last year.

I drove from New Orleans, not trailered.
Trying to keep youyr car clean after an eight hour trip is challenging.
I had a '93 Black Trans Am.
I did win runner up for 93-97 firebird modified. I was suprised !

5th gens were there all in their newness
4th gens still overpopulated the lot.
You couldn't go more than a 10 car stretch without tripping over a
camaro with the SS hood and wing (wether it was a SS or not).
Red was the plentiful color as well.

Scott Settlemire's, f-body rep from GM, choice of show was a 3rd gen bird !!!!
I spotted every 3rd gen there, it had made want to get one of my 3rd gens running to a point where it could make an 8 hour trip there and back.

Unfortunately third gen fest goes the same weekend in Illinois, which I have not been to yet.
I am from originally from the Chicago area. so I may combine a trip home and a f-body event in the same trip this year.
I had fun at G14. I will go again, but maybe every other year.

They had a section for 3rd gen.org at G14
They also had a section for GSFCC, which I am a member of as well.
You can opt to have your V6 car judged with the V8's of your year specification as well.

It was nice having the event at the hotel (no driving)
It would of been nicer if it hadn't of rained for half of the event.
If you haven't been to it, you should go.
If you think it will be 4th gen heavy, that is because not enough 3rd gens are going!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Here are some pics:

This a few cars that GM brought down.
The yellow and red ones on ther left had some new engine options
A Pace car, then a new Dale Earnhardt Jr edition coming, one of the test mules and a new Cynergy green model

This one wasn't in the event, just drove in to see it.
It has all the 1LE optioned stuff, but the alum spare.
But, it is not an 1LE, it is a Canadian Camaro originally.

Here was a nice GTA convertible

Here was this faded yellow bird, not perfect but overall in good shape

There was a roll bar inside, but not overall impressive until you opened the hood

After some discussion, found out he was from Hawks Thirdgen -what a sleeper!

And yet another 3rd gen engine shot

I have more, but this is to show you that the only reason 4th gens dominate a regional car show,
is because you did not go !!! (with your 3rd)

Scott Settlemire's pick "Best Firebird" G-14.

Thats Amanda, my car, and no one was more surprised than I was. The car had won Class Winner for 82 to 87 stock Firebird at G-13, but you have to admit, that is a pretty limited class. I was not real surprised when it earned Class Winner again, at G-14. I have been a turdgenner since 1982, and have become more than used to being a Thirdgen stepchild.

I had loaded the TA, (Amanda) back in her trailer on Sunday afternoon, and went back to our room and was taking a nap. I got a call from Chad Sunday afternoon requesting that I unload the car and bring her over to the Cobb Ballroom for the awards ceremony Sunday evening. They would not tell me anything, just that Scott wanted to see the car one more time.

Scott told me that he has a soft spot for Thirdgens, and wishes that he has not sold his. He jokingly tried to buy Amanda from me, but I told him that he would have to get in line after my 11 grandchildren. Truthfully none of the grandchildren are that interested in the car, and it is sort of promised that Chad Poole from the Gathering has first shot at the car if and when it is ever sold.

Scott Settlemire is a very cool dude. I've talked to him a few times, and he signed my car at the Fbody Reunion in Bowling Green back in 2006. My car was stock back then and he said he really liked it. I can't wait to show him what I've done with it at G15

86WS6, have you got any pics of the cars outside of the ballroom Sunday? I remember being in your way while you were taking some. LOL My camera did a disappearing act with mine. That was cool, just wish all generations could have been represented.

Looks like a good time! I plan on going for my first time this year. Do you know when you can register? Anyone ever gone to the f-body beach bash in Myrtle Beach? Thinking about checking that out also.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

I was at the Bash this year. It's pretty good with the trip to Myrtle Beach Speedway and the cruise. Terry B and some others are working on that for this year I believe. I'm sure I'll be there again as I'm only ten miles or so away. Let me know if anyone wants to rent a mobile home in Myrtle for that weekend or week. I can get a two br/ba cheap.

I did take some pictures of the cars outside of the ballroom. They are not as good as they should have been. Between the constant moving of the cars, the rain, and my being in a hurry to get back to our room get Betty and get back, I did not take much time to get good shots. You are welcome to any that I have.

All of the pics that I took at G-14 are on Facebook and on the Fbodygathering Facebook page. I think that it is at the top of the "parking lot" tab on the Gathering site. There are somewhere around 500 pics, about 300 + of them are mine. You are welcome that anything that you want.

You can also go directly to my facebook page. It is listed under my e-mail address gcsprayjr@msn.com

If none of that works, let me know and I will pull them directly off of the picture card in the camera.

Charles

Here is the link. Correction, there are 614 photos. I posted 385 of them. Some of the postings from others who contributed are from eariler gatherings.

Here is a pretty decent shot of your car. If you look past the picture of your car, you can see my candy apple red F-350 Tow Pig and gray car haul trailer, if anyone cares.

I can't wait to see your new blower setup in person. I'm trying to find a decently priced way of getting both my car and my dads IROC-Z down there, if I can find a double trailer that isn't a goose neck we may go that route.

Greenbird may not be there. Guy is going to come look at it at the end of the month. If I get a deposit, it goes under a tarp until its paid off

M122 will go on the next car if that happens

Why not drive the pair of Camaros down to Atlanta?

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

I have the same problem. A friend of mine has a 1969 RS, 350, 4 speed, factory air, vert. It is also white with orange graphics. The car is restored as OEM with 48K actual miles on it. Oh Yeah, I drool over it also! The car belonged to her husband, who passed away a few years back. One day the car is for sale, the next it is not. We would love to bring the car to the gathering and see what sort of attention it will get. H***, someone might want the thing and make her an offer that she can't refuse. Problem is, if I bring her 69, I have to leave my 86 at home.

Because if anything happens like what happened last year on our way down there, it would be much more expensive than having the truck break down. And plus I've only out about 1,200 miles on the motor and the clutch has been extremely temperamental, I'd hate to drive it down there and it have an attitude adjustment and try to leave me stranded hundreds of miles from home. And my dad by this point will have just finished his car and maybe only put a few hundred miles on his swap. I don't think he'll be comfortable enough making that drive. Plus his is an auto with 4.10 gears LOL

That, and there's also the fact that I promised my car I would NEVER drive it in rain or snow EVER again. It was my DD through high school, and ever since the 305 came out of it, it's never seen a drop of water unless it was taking a bath. I wouldn't mind so much getting stuck in the rain with the car on a trailer, but driving through it is a big no-no.

Nothing wrong with the 5th gens, it's a great car- But the typical 5th gen owner is another story entirely. Gone is the camaraderie that once was a group of Camaro/Firebird owners- Now it's 3rd genners complaining there are too many 4th gens, LT1 guys bitchin' about how they're better than LS guys (ha) 5th genners trying to be 'Vette Owners, and throw into that mix fanatics that whine about the weather, post eleventy billion pics of their car over and over, constantly one-up the next guy, complain about the cruise venue, the speed others were driving, or that they got lost, the time of the awards, whether they got a fridge or not, or just huddling together in cult like groups under their tent casting "We're better than ..." looks as folks walk by- It's not the get to know everybody and have a good time together regardless event it used to be- And I speak from 13 Gatherings experience. All the noobs can have it, I'm done.

Wouldn't know, as I don't own a Ford, and My Pontiacs haul fine on their own. I'm sure you can find someone with a Gen 5 who won't appreciate your car there. As far as I'm concerned, donate my spaces for a few more New Camaros. Might want to raise the registration costs tho, as some advertising might be in order.

Well I AM ready for a good time. Sorry you won't be coming, but I know it's gonna be a lot of fun. Who cares if the majority of 5th gen owners don't even care to look at our cars? These things were made long before their 5th gens were even a dream in the engineer's minds, and I didn't buy mine to gain approval from everybody else. I bought it because it's what I enjoy and that's sufficient enough for me. Besides, I have a very strong feeling that there will only be a select number of cars down there that will be able to hang with me if they decide to settle our difference on the back roads.

Not to be a weenie, but a 400 WHP LS engine hardly raises an eyebrow anymore. Not only that, with the stuffy factor that has been taking over the show over the last several years, chances of getting your race on is nil. I remember what the event was in years past, and it made me sick to see it like it was last year.

Not to be a weenie either, but HP numbers don't tell the full story. When your 420hp car is stumbling over the rear bumper of your buddy's 535hp 4th gen you know you're doing something right. And as for 5th gens, they are heavy pigs so their stock numbers don't raise my eyebrow one bit.

I'm sure we can find somewhere to go in Atlanta to get some races in. Sure it would have to be far away from the hotel, but that doesn't bother me.

I feel inadaquate... To think that I used to be just fine with my 215HP 305 whezzy vaccum cleaner TPI.

I can care less if any 5th genners appreciate my car or not. We go to have a good time for the weekend and always have a blast. I am not there to gain anyone's approval or disapproval. If anyone wants to look down on me for having a thirdgen, that is their problem, not mine.

Maybe I will just go rent me an old trailer and move on down to the trailer park with my thirdgen parked outside the front door.

It's just dog-eat-dog in the car world nowdays. I get all kinds of asshats in the third gen circles hating on me because they assume I only have a 4th gen, or five. Little do they know...

Travis, if you change your mind about G-15, let me know and I will put the Heartbeat of America plate back on the front of the F-350 just in your honor. And you can hang out with us lowly thirdgeners if you want to. Personally I like all of the generations of F-Bodies and X-bodies, but the turdgens are my favorite. People with bad attitudes are everywhere. I collect Lionel toy trains and it never fails when we go to a train show there is always some asshat who thinks he or her trains are better than anyone else's and that he or she is better than anyone else because they have the best trains. Same way with the boating club. The dudes with the 35 foot twin engine diesels think that they are better then us white trash bass boat folks. Even in the Crown Victoria club the P-71 (police interceptor) owners think that their better than us P-74 (civilian version) owners. In the Powerstroke club it is the 6.0 owners versus the 7.3 owners... On the F-150 sites it is the 3 valve owners versues the 2 valve owners...Who Cares?

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Growing up in the 60's my family all worked in the auto industry. Mom worked for Chrysler, and later for Ford. One uncle owned a Buick dealership, and another uncle was the service manager. Another uncle was a design engineer with the Chevrolet division of GM. All of my life I have heard blow-hards go on and on about how this brand is better then that brand. The truth of the matter is that every company has made some duds and every company has made some nice vehicles. I consider myself a car guy, not a brand guy. In my 55 years, I have owned 62 different vehicles. Some were good and some were bad. I owned a 1957 BMW Isetta 13 Hp car that I was very fond of. Also have some fond memories of a 1966 Chrysler Newport that my mom owned with a 375HP 440 Comando power plant. I owned a 69 Shelby and a 70 Shelby that I was very disapointed with, but wish I owned them now so I could sell them again and pay off my house. I owned a 1967 GTX with a 440/4speed, and all I can say is fun, fun, fun. I have a special soft spot for Trans AMs. To date I have owned five of them starting with a 79 Smoky and the Bandit,, 400 Pontiac, and 4 speed Muncie. Your grandfather has some good advise. Let most of it go in one ear and out of the other.

Very true. I have a decent set of 16 x 8 Formula wheels that I have been trying to sell for over a year. Shipping is so high these days that it is not worth the price of shipping for someone to get the wheels. The first person to email me on my personal e-mail and let me know that they want the wheels, and that they are planning of coming to G-15 can have them for FREE. I will bring them to G-15. If anyone wants to look at the wheels they are posted in the parts for sale section with pictures. The wheels are straight and have zero road rash. The clear coat is peeling. They would look great powder-coated in black. gcsprayjr@msn.com Charles

Yea, it was a beautiful car. I got rid of it though to get something alittle more practical to drive everyday and not have to worry so much about it all the time. I couldn't even go somewhere without worrying someone would hit it in the parking lot and such, plus it was low and stiff the ride would beat you on the highway. etc. It wasn't meant to be a daily driver.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Ya know, I'll admit that I specified "gens" but it's not really about a year, or a "gen", or a body platform. But you ARE right about where it has gone. It's all about power, racing and performance. I won't point my finger at anyone, because I don't know most of you, but so many of the younger guys are really driving that. I'd rather look at a well built car, a unique interior, or a just chat with good folks. Heck you can't see power at the show. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word 4th genners. My bad. ....but your point is exactly what I've noticed, and why it's harder to justify the trip.

Just wondering, has anybody ever tried to put together a third gens only gathering for that part of the country? you would probably get a nice group of guys, and avoid the issues that seem to bother many of you

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

When a "new" generation comes out, they are impressive.
They are also out of the reach of many enthusiasts, financially.
I go to several cruises and shows during the year and I can tell the difference
between someone who built their car and someone who bought their car.
Some enthusiasts do not have the skills, time or facility to rebuild, enhance or restore thier car.
Buying a finished vehicleis thier way to go for them.
When you build your own ride, you have a deeper appreciation of what others have gone through on their.
The arrogance of mine is better than yours,
when it comes to a new car/gen owner, I think is hilarious.

That wheezy little 305 or 350 TPI, as someone put it earlier,
has more torque in the lower rpm range than the newer models.
If you look at the hp/torque curve of the 5th gens and actually look at the tach when you drive the car,
you will never approach any of the HP and Torque figures that GM advertises, during normal driving.
It is a great job of packaging by GM. So much for mine is better than yours.
Oh yeah, I can actually see out of my car when I drive it also.
Let's see what a fifth gen looks like in 20+ years, hmmmmmm?

I enjoy meeting new people at these events.
Taking a long distance trip with friends and seeing what others have done to their car.
If some have an arrogant attitude, let them. My car is paid for and the work is done by me.
I did not have to spend 40K+ to enjoy my car, 23K+ for the v6 folks.
I think that maybe the 5th gen owners are trying to compensate for something that they are personally lacking,
but I could be wrong?

As soon as I get my formy running well enough to achieve "dependable" status,
My 4th gen is up for sale. I have another 3rd gen already lined up to fix.
I look forward to meeting some of you face to face, if I go.
Some mechanical problem will prevent me from going,
not because someone is not going to like, admire or respect me or my ride
