Kingman Third Gens

My family and I finally rolled our two Camaros into Kingman on Dec 20 and have been getting familiar with the area. Big change from Honolulu! Oddly, the cost of groceries and stuff in stores is a bit higher than Hawaii... Gas is cheaper, thank goodness for that! People are friendly and polite in this fast-growing town. Tom and George sure rolled out the red carpet for us fellow TGO members, they've made a difficult move incredibly easier. Haven't seen many nice 3rd Gens on the roads here, only a couple junkers, sigh. Guy living down the block though, has two nice Camaros ... I'll stop by and say "hi" one of these days soon. We're house-hunting now, some nice places up here in the high desert. One of them has a five car detached garage on 3/4-acre, sounds like my kind of place! Well, just thought I'd drop in with an update. More will follow!

****. Just as I get outta town I find some thirdgenners. If we can get together anytime soon, we need to. I move for college on Saturday, but it'd be sweet to get together. I got an Maroon 87 Iroc with "IROC4DZ" for plates. (Iroc Fords, not Forties, nor For deezy.) It's in the tranny shop right now, but should be out tomorrow.

Edit: Robert, those plates should look familiar to you. >.> <.< You held up good, right until I hit overdrive. That was a hell of a lot of fun though. I found some pics, and remembered that SS sticker on the back.

Thanks Robert, appreciate it! My son and I still have the Hawaii plates on the cars ... when we park at Walmart people have been taking photos -- guess not too many of those show up here. Yeah, one of these Fridays or Saturdays we could fill a bunch of parking spaces at Sonic! A great opportunity to choke down a couple of those great chili dogs!! BTW, we're looking for a used truck if you know of a good one around town.

Just got my car back from the Tranny shop. Runs like a dream. Any of you have a problem, Automatic Transmission Rebuilders on Beale St near the Circle K do a great job. Price was high, but so was work quality. So we totally need to get together or something. Sonic on Andy Devine around 7 tomorrow night?

I had a friend send a 700 over to kermits for a rebuild, and kermit rebuilt it four times before he got it right. My freind only had to pay for the first build, but I'm making the trip down to Tucson soon, so I *need* reliability.

What was the price and warranty on the ATR rebuilt trans? About six months ago the 700R4 in our '92cop car dumped and I couldn't find a reasonably-priced rebuilder on Oahu, so I emailed Dana and had him ship a street-strip Pro-Built trans and Edge 9.5-inch 2600 stall convertor to us. Parts were about $2K and the results were better gas mileage and awesome WOT. See you guys Friday night, I'll be the old guy with a beard shivering in a heavy jacket ... maybe George or Tom want to come along for a while. The car's a white '87 IROC with '92 dress-up.
Oh yum, bring on those evil chili dogs with extra onions and a splash of Tabasco! Why else would I carry around a bottle of Roll-Aids!!

Awesome. Looks like I have to was the car tomorrow. *begs to the skies* Please don't be freezing cold. Please don't be freezing cold.

The price was good. $1546, almost all of the hard parts were replaced, pretty much everything except the pump, replaced with heavy duty parts, heavy duty rebuild kit, flushed the remaining coolant lines for eight hours (major tc failure, probably the lockup), and installed a Hayden Transmission Cooler. I do believe it's a one year warranty, and it's cold outside, so I'll show ya tomorrow. He also tightened up my shifter cable and my throttle linkage from the pedal. My throttle used to be soft, and powerful, now it feels just as hard as it is. Gonna check to make sure the manual valve linkage is still hooked at the right level of throttle, but it feels great. And the guy was awesome. Had me come in, look at the parts he was replacing, explained why. Helped me get a much better feeling for automatic transmissions.

Heh, this winter time of year ... when the sun goes down the night sucks the warmth away quick! I won't hang out long, but I'll shoot a few photos of ThirdGens and crazy people bracing themselves against a teeth-chattering Artic wind-chill blast...

Since Automatic Transmission Rebuilders on Beale St near the Circle K did a good job, suggest you post the mechanic, address, telephone, etc, in the forum sticky.

Me, Robert, Duck, and George (I believe) I'm no good at names. Lotsa fun. Got there at 7, got out at 9:45ish.

Duck: Here's that link for 9-Bolt parts we were talking about. I have the catalog set on Ring and Pinions, but they have everything else too. http://www.jawsgear.com/store/catalo...ath=21_105_116

Hi Guys!
It was fun (and cold) at Sonic!
Glad we went into JB's instead.
Fun talking about cars as well.
Nice to meet you, TheScareyOne.
Duck picked up his family around 4am today, and had to drive them back from Bullhead.
Who knows, still sleeping?
Robert came over today, and got the grand tour of Trans Am Land.
I think he was abit surprised at what I had.
Now, if only the weather would get warmer, it would be more fun!

George

You are not the only one who has ever said that to me!
As you can see, I need a much bigger garage!
Sorry we didn't make it last night, did you go (frontier gathering)?
Glad you enjoyed your visit.

Insane Cold Crew

On a recent frigid night that froze ice three inches deep on the bucket of water my dogs drink from, several sociable Kingman TGO members "rolled out the welcome wagon" for me at the Sonic Drive In on Andy Devine. George [Mr. Turbo TA] rode shotgun with me as we "put the faces in their places" popped the hoods and made car-talk for about 30 minutes, until a then frozen Duck-sicle pleaded for mercy from the 10 below wind-chill blast. Moving next door to a diner with hot food thawed the group for an hour-plus of swapping stories and an amazing amount of Pontiac tech info from Mr. Turbo TA. It was so fun, we'll be doing it again soon!

In the attached photo shot by Matt, The Scary One [Tyler] and Robert Frank stand oblivious to the freezing windblast, while George tries to block the wind from Duck frozen to the fender of his white '87 IROC.

Yeah, please do! There's a lot more ThirdGenners here in Kingman than I originally thought ... I've seen some really nice ones in the past couple days since it's been warm. Toms84SS got a new engine in his FireBird and it sounds pretty nasty. Went around the block a couple times yesterday and it's definately fun. Hey anytime I'm up for one of those vicious cheese coneys or maybe y'all have someplace else in mind...

Well, the meet we're setting up down here in Tucson is at a Sonic. Keep up the sonic tradition! Then just go into JB's when it gets too cold. :P

Hey phatcat, did you buy that car at Dan's auto sales? If so double check to make sure that it actually has a L98 in it.The VIN code calls for a Lb9 305.That's the only reason I didn't get that car.

Actually, it is a LB9, and it did come from Dan's wrecks!
I got it cheap enough, and figured it would make a good project...
Good excuse for an eventual 383!!

I just forgot to change my profile.
Here WAS my 1988 L98 car. Some guy offered me $9000.00 for it, so I couldn't refuse!!!!! I miss her though. It used to make the 4th-gen guys heads turn!

....so what's this about a Kingman F-Body club???

I've been wanting to start one for awhile now.Until now there hasn't been enough of us together and I just wanted to wait until I got a new windsheild beforehand so I can proudly represent A banner across it.
Yeah as far as the black car the owner tried to tell me that it had a 350 and it had 300 ponies, lol. After I called him out on it when I read the vin he tried to say that I didn't know what I was talking about. So I calmly said no thank you and proceded to laugh my *** of as I walked to my car.

Yeah, dude tried that one on me too....
Said the same thing to me, 350, 300 ponies.
I showed him my ASE certification card, and told him he was full of crap, and the car needed a steering column, MAF, TPS, brakes (and BTW, no L98 Camaro came with rear drums - I told him that too!) - oh, and that all 4 door hinges were about to fall off the car.
I traded him straight for a Mustang with a V-6, low oil pressure, and a burnt up clutch. He saw the pretty paint and great interior, and thought he was getting a bargain!
It may be a 305, but motor and trans are solid. Paint looks like s**t, but no dents. It's workable, and Kingman Kar has what I need for it!

If you know how these buy-here-pay-here dealers work around here, they don't know cars, and don't care. They just want to get you in for an unreasonable loan, and hope you can't pay it, take the money they already got, repo it, put it back out, and do it all over again to someone else.
Oh, and they NEVER report to any credit agency, ever!

I merely convinced him that he could sell my old Mustang for more than he was selling the IROC for, and got an even swap!

I'll need a windshield too, but I would definately be interested in joining a club around here!

Let me know how it goes. I work very full-time, so I can't always check in, but will when I can.

AWESOME SCORE! I wish I could've seen the look on that guys face when you busted out the ASE card,That would've been priceless.lol
Did you see how much he wanted for the black SS camaro he had there. That dufus is asking 10,500 for that thing! I know for a fact that it's been drag raced, stolen, wrecked and salvaged.I can't believe some people these days.

Thanks! I thought it was a pretty good score!
I did see the SS too- definately rode hard and put away wet!!!
He's gonna make alot selling that thing to kids, repo-ing, selling again, repo-ing!!!
He will do the same thing with my old Mustang!

The look on his face was priceless! Except for sex, there is no greater rush than putting one over on a car dealer!

I take it Dan's is on Bank?
That's the only black SS I've seen.
And I saw that car years ago on his lot, all smashed up before he got the front end repainted.
If it is, he wanted 25 grand for the car about 3 years ago.
Told me it was one of 250.
Ya, right!

Don't you just love the small time car dealers in Kingman??

I always find their stories entertaining, but don't believe a word!
