Possible event ideas

I was thinking maybe it would be a good Idea to try to plan some event in either vegas or tucson since they're pretty much the center of the southwest. Luckily these things take a while to plan out. But this should be fun! possibly rent some old drag strip or airstrip out for a weekend. Barbecue, racing, show us what you got section, maybe a way to network with different person to person sales on parts, maybe even some suppliers if my wishes would ever be heard; good music ei live bands i know of three that would play anyways I think this might be a good idea since it's so damn hot down here lets maybe shoot for labor day weekend or something. It is just a thought but lets here some ideas. Even of just what you would like to see at an event. I'd love to get a chance to meet other 3rd gen owners out here to put a face to some of these screen names. So what do you all think?

Re: Possible event ideas

For Arizona, there are more thirdgens in Phoenix then Tucson. Tucson is really not that big of a community and really far south if some of the Vegas people wanted to come.

Exactly. The best thing for us to do would likely be, to "Piggyback" on some other event, such as race night (Friday or saturday) out at speed world. I know some people that work out there, and could probably convince them to let us out there, before the racing starts (Usually after sundown.) We could get there a few hours early and have a sort of "Show / meet-and-greet" and then, race with everyone else.

Re: Possible event ideas

If the wife is in to it, maybe I can make something like that. I would let her do the racing (to help get her to let me go). BBQ sound good too. Jason lives closest, so he would bring the grill!

Re: Possible event ideas

I'm all up for phoenix. Best friend moved out there and I'm looking to go to school for auto tech and really have my eyes set on UTI in Avondale, I know that degree will be accepted a lot better than one from Community college of southern nevada which has had to cut their budget by what are we up to now by almost 60% hence why I'm out of work got laid off from unlv so I want my money to actually go for something worthwhile and not some halfwit degree that im affraid isnt going to get me much respect or like my friends have certain classes canceled before I can graduate. anyways I had to vent sorry. I think the piggyback idea is awesome!! Anyone like beer and brauts?

I like beer and brauts. In fact I combine the two! LOL, I'll bring the grill and provide my awesome cooking skills *ahem*. Chris, I got the feeling drag racing would be good for Gina. Give her an outlet for her agressions and maybe she will stop beating you up!! (Spousal abuse is such a sad thing...)

Re: Possible event ideas

thinking of uti in either my home city of chicago or phoenix. More so phoenix since I hear it's not too expensive "living" (i'll be in the dorms most likely) my best friend moved out there with her kid, and it's close to my family here in vegas compared to chicago. Plus most of you guys seem to be out there so maybe I'll be able to attend some events

We get together sometimes (At least for wrenching parties!) There are some informal "Car shows" that are on every friday and saturday night in various parts of the valley. Wherabouts did your friend move to?

Re: Possible event ideas

we met here in vegas and she was in auto shop in highschool and has a 71 fastback that I will smoke someday once I upgrade to a newer ls/lt engine and complete all the power adders I want. My goal is to have a 600hp street car that barely meets the legal standard lol But that's quite a few years away. Hopefully high octane gas will still be available lol

Re: Possible event ideas

UTI used to be a good school to go to (in my opinion). When I was there, there was a lot of people that didn't belong. And now that the auto industry is in crisis, I would think about doing something else. After I graduated, I worked for Jaguar and it was a joke there for 2 years. They let me go and I started my own pool cleaning and repair business. Making more money now than when working on cars and the dealer I worked at is now closed. They only gave their workers 2 days notice. If you decide to move down here, we can definately teach you how to fix cars and work on them and all, but seriously think about what you want to do that won't cause you to be in the poor house with this poor economy. I don't want to steer you away from your dream, but just be smart about it. I did learn a lot at UTI, but the industry is just not doing well right now.

Re: Possible event ideas

I went to UTI in 06 and it was a great time for me. I met a ton of people and have got a couple lifetime friends out of it. Mind you i got a full ride scholarship, but i learned a ton. You just have to stay focused and not let all the idiots (there are a lot of them there) distract you. Those were times i will always remember fondly.

Re: Possible event ideas

my thing is my parents never gave me jack for a college fund, theyre scraping themselves UTI is what im doing now at MCC minus the math portion, to me a $5K bill i can pay off working at quiktrip is a hell of alot better than a $24K bill id have to foot over the next few years. BUT thats just me lol theres a multitude of ways to get your education, some just do it, some go to like MCC, and those who are fortunate enough to go to UTI do it. Ive got alot of friends who still work in the dealerships and you could walk into the shop and see atleast half who went to a community college and half that went the UTI route. Same result, different journey.

ANYWAY BACK TO THE TOPIC

Events; when, where etc. and whos REALLY comin thru with it? lol

Re: Possible event ideas

Andy... Your car isnt the junker of the group. Our cars all have issues. Mine needs a paint job (All three of them, come to think of it.) Chris's is in primer, Sean's is in primer, chris's has a white hood, etc...

It's all about having fun. If you look good while doing it, then thats a plus!

P.S. my wife will be racing the IROC, if we do this. I can usually only get her to do autocross events, but she said she will make an exception.
