Back in a 3rd gen
And I bought its King, well technically the TTA is king, but only served 1 year whereas the GTA was around for 6. Anyway, here it is. 1989 GTA, L98, auto obviously, 3.27 9-bolt rear, t-tops, 99k, ice cold Freon AC, everything works but the horn and CC. I'm doing a tune up on it right now. I've always wanted a GTA and I got a damn near mint one. I just had to give up my Silver rocket LT1. A necessary loss because I really missed having a thirdgen.
It will be stock for awhile, but I see getting LTs, flowmaster catback, a nice stall, and maybe doing a RMT turbo after that. Appearance wise, saving up for some of those Year One Bandit wheels. But $600 a peice before rubber and shipping, I'll be waiting a bit. Here are some pics.

Sweet! I have a special spot in my heart for GTA's. I say keep it stock looking! The exhaust mods would be good, though. It's a really nice looking car!

Oh yeah, no gaudy out of place looking ram air hoods or any of that bull ****. Just tint, exhaust, and wheels. I like the GTA wheels, but the Falken Ziex pizza cutter tires that are on it, have to go. I looking for some fatter tires, but in the meantime they will do.

Compared to the Kumho 285/40r17s I had, they are. The Kumhos were a wide 285 too. These Falken Ziexs are a skinny 245.
Charcoal GTAs, imho, are the best looking. But if you have a GTA, you should rock the Gold ones.

Hey Kevin,
Good to see you back in a thirdgen. I've still got your last one.
Putting money into it when I have the time, got the speedo working properly about a year ago.

Re: Back in a 3rd gen
Right now I'm just trying to track down why it can be hard to start when it has sat for a few days and why it randomly dies once in a while when I let off the gas after driving it for a bit.
I put seats out of a '95 TA in about a year ago, much more comfortable.
Other than that, haven't done a whole lot other than getting the rear brakes and rotors done recently.
I don't plan on letting go of the car any time soon.

If you aren't doing anything with 'em and if you are thinking about sending them to the scrapper, I'll take them off your hands. Those were comfy seats.

Love the look of the car! My Firebird is under some work at the moment, but Jason thinks it's BAD A$$. He's getting the short block when I get the new engine built. If those seats are in great shape, I might want to buy them off you, if they are gray. I need a new set of fronts because mine are torn (have covers over them right now).

Kevin,
I'll sell them to you for $100. They're still in pretty decent shape from what I remember. I've got them stored at my dad's house and he'd be more than happy for them to be gone.

Hey Mike, go ahead and see if Birdtojag wants them. They were really good seats. Very comfy, especially the thigh support cushion. But if he doesn't take them, I'll buy them from you.

Re: Back in a 3rd gen
It sure is in fact a L98 t-top car. B2L/L98 are both in my RPo sheet saying the 350 motor is a 350 motor and it also has CC1 which is the code for T-tops. So.....there you go.
For whatever reason, in the SD years it was very hard to find a 350 t-top T/A. But oddly enough, 350 Formulas had them along with GTA wheels. Weird.

Not only that, when you took me for a couple pulls in her.. definitely
a 350 even though you had a small issue, they have a slightly different
tone as well.
My TPI car was originally a LB9 car, that got a L98 after I tanked a few 305's.

Funny you mention the tone. I remember when I removed the 305 and put in a 350, the 350 tone is a bit slower. I totally forgot that moment. LOL!!!

libolt, what color are the seats? I might be interested. I might have Jason pick them up for me and hold them until I can get over there again.

Like Kevin said, they're light grey, I can try and get over to my dad's sometime this week and get some pics if you want. He's in Glendale.

Re: Back in a 3rd gen
Didn't intend to offend anyone. I had read somewhere in the past that T-top third gens NEVER had 350s from the factory. Of course, it could have definately been incorrect info. I love the car. Hope mine looks that good one day...Now just what to do about a motor...

Re: Back in a 3rd gen
I doubt you offended anybody! There is a lot of mis-information about these cars. My favorite one is the 350/5-speed one. Its true they never came from the dealership with the 5 speed behind the 350, but GM auctioned off 4 "Test" cars with 350's and 5 speed several years ago. Go with a 350, you wont be sorry!

Re: Back in a 3rd gen
350? He should go with a 400 if he can find one. :P Or a 1 piece RMS bowtie (GMPP, called a bowtie because of the bowtie cast into the block) block. They can handle large cubes because they're siamese bore, and have a lot of reinforcing. I think they're pre-clearanced for mild strokers as well.

Yeah, but on a budget, a mild 350 shortblock can be really affordable! I am a "More cubes is better" Person, LOL.
