Need help with your car?

I'm in Phoenix, have been working on birds for a year or so, love them to death. I'm posting in case anyone needs help working on their third gen - I have plenty of free time to spare and am not interested in charging for the service, just here to help out if anyone needs it. Just shoot me a PM.

Re: Need help with your car?

I am going to be doing a motor swap on the Camaro in the next few months. I could use a hand if you don't mind. Just a little help moving the hoist around. I can do most of it on my own but an extra hand and prospective is always a help.

I am also going to extend an offer to the group here. I like doing diagnostic work, data scans, troubleshooting, motor or tranny swaps, etc. I have a lot of test equipment and heavy arsenal of tools. So if anyone ever needs help do not hesitate to ask. Free of course for all third gens!!

LOL, sounds good!! I could really use some help, troubleshooting my torque-converter lock-up. (Yeah, I know... "The auto electrician needs help with a wiring issue....." Sad, I know.)

Just out of curiousity, what motor are you putting in it? Bigger TPI? LSX?

The RS gets dyno tuned with the blower on Friday. Then it's just the cleanup items left on it for extra guages and mounting the hood.

We haven't touched the Z yet except to see if it would even crank over. It didn't so now we get to start diagnosing if the engine is seized or just the starter.

I'd love the help but this is going to be long term trouble shooting. The car hasn't been started since 1999 and it's number 3 on the list of things I might work on after finishing the 92. Known issues include but are not limited to:

1. Rodents of some kind ate through several locations on the wiring harness.
2. It might be missing some pieces but it's torn apart enough we just don't know.
3. It hasn't been started in a decade so it might need a complete drivetrain swap.

That and I'm going to be selling it to a friend shortly so it'll be his job to figure out how many new parts it needs before it sees the street again.

Right now I have narrowed it down to two setups and neither are an LSX. I have been saving for years for this and I am about to pull the trigger. One is more of a budget setup and one is more highend. I am just in a mental debate on how much I should spend.

Motor # 1
Year One Power Crate 400hp 350 crate engine assembly
Part # CT350PC1
Bascially, its a rebuilt 350 with Ported Vortec Iron heads and LT4 hot cam.
$2989.00
http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/f...=P26EX8116&trk
For induction I would run a Holley Stealthram setup.

Motor # 2
Scoggin Dickey Fast Burn motor
Part # SDZZ430B
This a GM Fast burn 385 motor with the LT4 hot cam added.
$5698.95
http://www.gmmotors.com/product/SDZZ...ripEngine.aspx
For induction on this motor I would run a TPIS Miniram setup.

Motor # 2 would be an easier install with the Miniram setup, is a new motor with a forged crank and rods, and lightweight almunin fastburn heads. However, as you can see costs alot more.

Both output about the same power so it will be on of these two for sure. Just stuck on which one. I like to use nitrous so I am a little afraid of the cheaper setup.

I could give you hand with that. No problem. Let's hookup one weekend and get it done. It's easier if you come to my place since thats where I have all my tools and test equipment and I would not have pack everything up for a trip but I could come out your way also. Just pm when you want to look at it.

Re: Need help with your car?

I'm all about power, so I'd go with the second one

Re: Need help with your car?

burnout88: Chris (birdtojag) and I could probably build you the same motor for much less (Option # 2 of course) If you really want the ultimate in tunability, I would recommend a single plane Fuel-injection setup like I am doing, with an accel DFI thruster setup. Very cost effective and with options to upgrade at later dates. Beater79ta is using the Thruster and it seems to be working well. I will be using this system and intake in my twin-turbo T/A.
Just some food for thought. Honestly, if you are contemplating spending that much money, an LSX would be a really good foundation for real horsepower (Affordable, too if you use the LQ9 6.0L truck block and GTO heads.) Either way, we could help you.

I would want to look at it about 6 months ago, LOL!! Anytime is good, I also have some eibach suspension pieces and kyb adjustable shocks to put on the IROC. and some 3:73 gears and locker, and.... The list just goes on and on....

For some reason, the lockup wire is showing ground at all times (Locked) so if I plug the connector in, the TC stays locked in all gears. Not sure if the wires has become grounded somewhere or if the problem is in the ecm.

Cool! Let us know how it goes. I'm kind of anxious to see how much power that beast makes. Any chance I could come along with you when you take it to the dyno? I'd like to see the Thruster setup in action (Real time) on the dyno.

That is still a possible intake since I already own it. I could run the Vortec Base and Superram upper. But's a ***** to install and it is the only thing that had me thinking about other intake setup's. That intake is just so hard to deal with when doing any type of service work on the motor.

Re: Need help with your car?

well we're not in the bronx lol i talked to both chris's today and explained our recent apartment issues with people missing rent and turns out they wanted to send us to court because one of my room mates wasnt paying rent and we owe about 400$ now.... so brennamen is throwing his whole paycheck at it and the one who kept missing only has a small portion to cover, if she doesnt im covering it and shes out, if we cant solve it they take us to court, i have a 4000 lease breaking fee and my credit is screwed... im waiting for money to be straight again so we can get back to building our cars without having to throw down for a dead beat.

On the lighter side of life i got the harness from chris and once i figure out where i can get a dual fan setup and keep the car cool im taking it down for a few days to swap the TPI on, after i put new o rings on that is lol

how much would this set up cost? this sounds like it would work great in my 86.
