October Super Cruise!

Ok, you guys remember I had mentioned I was planning a cruise through my area? Well, I figured out something, it won't start in my area, but will pass by very close to where I live. Heck you'll probably use the same gas station I use daily. Potentially ending up at our next meeting at Valencia Chevrolet. It is aproximately 100 miles of driving with a rest in between for lunch. Where in between I don't know, I'm working on the schedule. Very scenic routes, plenty of places to open up your car. "I've heard" upto 130 MPH and some places where you will feel like you are hauling massive booty, but only doing 25 MPH! I will be keeping it to a spirited cruise. That means not really the speed limit, but no where near pushing my car to the limit (for other members enjoyment). You can if you want to and then wait for us at the upcoming turns (I'll have detailed maps with distances). So, would you guys be interested in this? I am giving a month advance notice, plus the attendance should be good considering it is prior to the meeting. This is the "planned" route:

Meet at the San Fernando Road exit of the 14 freeway. Meander through the canyons of Santa Clarita into Palmdale. Sometime here, we can grab something to eat ... all of us, not just the people, cars too. Dive right into the curvatures of Elizabeth Lake area to wind out at the other side of Santa Clarita for our Bi-monthly meeting.

Input is greatly appreciated, and no I will not disclose the specific route we will take until we meet up. This is for obvious reasons and I don't want anyone doing a pre-run.

Oh, and it will be for any 3rd genner, even though a 4th gen will lead. I will see if GS3 is also interested, as well as OC3GFB (Mikey?). I might consider making this an annual event, changing the route of course.

Oh and also, I plan to maybe have two cameras mounted in my car (blarring hard rock/metal). One out the front, the other out the back seeing all those beautiful 3rd gens.

Once you negotiate this obstacle you can lead. :nono: Say I was planning on picking up one of those vanity plates for my rig. Perhaps you can let me in on some of your favorites. I wouldn’t be opposed to purchasing a few seeing as I will be so far ahead of you I’ll have time to rotate them. Hey man I’m here to help. The last thing I want is for you to get board steering at my *** end for over a hundred miles. As far as this “heavy metal” music goes you don’t have to lie to kick it man, we all know you’ll be blasting “Chente” with a little “Chalino” mixed in through the curves. Count me in and if I may be of any assistance please don’t hesitate to ask.

Oscar,

You are in luck. To join this wonderful club, you need to attend a meeting and/or a club event. Then just maintain that active status by attending upcoming events, as well as being active here on this message forum. The next activity we have planned is the one I posted about (this thread). If you can please join us.

Ok, people we have some good interest. Hopefully this weekend I can get the mileage/time-line specifics and find nice spots for resting. Would we like 30 minute runs with breaks totalling 15 minutes? I will scope out the area for gas and grub.

Yeah !! A cruise I can actually make with out my mother freaking out about it being too far away...we wont tell her its 100 miles long ... By any chance will this route go through the lower (windy) part of Soledad that meets back up with the 14fwy around Acton I think?(from my offramp Shadow Pines or Soledad it gets windy and runs along the fwy but then goes into the canyons) oops already pre-run that many times(my "testing grounds" after everytime I work on my car) and If I didnt think it would be busy I would suggest running through Placerita Cyn. and Sand Cyn. but you tend to run into slow mo's and theres no passing areas...heck I could bring my dad along and he can show us how he can drive through Sand Cyn. at night with his eyes closed!!! Needless to say my dad had a death wish as a teen...

NEways great idea!! Im definately in!!! As long as it is not on the 24th, unless all of you want to come with a present for my 18th B-day :hail: !!! :lala:

Count me in. I think. Depends on the date. Also, lets keep it 120 and under. I don't think my LG4 will go faster than that.....

C-dawg, I'm on the wrong side of the globe to pick you up otherwise, I would.

Chris, so long as it's a muscle car ...

Greg, I don't intend to go beyond 80-100. I'll let everyone know where you can "open it up" and where to wait for us slow pokes. Oh and the date ... it will be the same day of the next meeting (Oct. 5th)

Well you know what they say about people and their cars. You are what you drive. Well in my case it’s a more than perfect match lets see well I’m short (my car is lowered) I’m fat in the *** (so are my 295/35-18’s) I happen to be incredibly sexy (my car is incredibly sexy) I’m fast as hell well for about 30’ anyway (my car is fast as all hell or 330’ which ever comes first) and finally I have an incredibly low center of gravity and stick to the ground surprisingly well (so does my car) amazing isn’t it? On second thought Georgie maybe I should have the cameras mounted in my car. So we can capture those priceless images of your SS behind all of the lovely third gens. Remember that’s daddies o ring Georgie.

Well, well, well Don ... I'll be sure to find a nice place for lunch then, any preferrence?

Mikey. You don't want me to show you what a 1.74 60' looks like I suppose? Actaully, that's not a bad idea (the camera). Have one in front and one in the rear, I'll email you about testing the route if your available.

*(^&%$(&, I just realized something, actually it was brought to my attention by my family. We will be on vacation that day, or ending it. I will be returning from Yellowstone that day. Guess, we'll have to push back the meeting one week, eh? I can push the cruise either up or down a week. I, NOW, seriously need your input.

And no, I am not letting you guys go on this without me.

Late September or late October works better for me if we need to reschedule.

Oct. 12 I'll be in Tahoe for work and as soon I return on the 14th, I then have to turn around and head to Vegas from the 17th thru the 20th. :lala:

Update:

I ran the course yesterday, it looks to be roughly 85 miles based on the tripometer. Based on an average mph of ~45 MPH, it will take 1:45 hours to complete, not including a lunch stop. I think I will modify the route to be longer and end up at Castaic. Plenty of places to eat there (there's a McD's there for Kevin and Don ).

As for the date: Sept. 28th. We will start out at ~9:30-10:00 AM, hopefully finishing at 12:30 PM. We will stop twice at two scenic spots for pictures.

Start/End times are open for discussion. Would we prefer a late cruise or early cruise. It doesn't matter to me, just got to apply the sun screen before hand.

Well, the hatch pull-down is the easy part, consideing someone here (as in me) sells all the repair parts and even rebuilt units.

GPL, I was going to mention, when were you planning to change the title to "September Super Cruise"?

George had pushed it forward to 9-28, but now it looks as if he's pushed it back to 10-26. If tha latter is the new date, we've got lots of time to get our cars back together.

Yup, as Lon posted, it will be on 10-26. I would like input still regarding an early or late cruise. I am leaning towards a late cruise (start at ~5PM), the scenery towards the end will be beautiful at sunset. Plus, I will have a nice spot to rest and take some most excellent pictures for the website.

Actually I'm planning a run at the Ecology PAP's next week. I plan to hit the one in Lomita. It will be on a weekday morning though (less crowded).

George, I won't have the IROC running by then, but if you start at 5:00 p.m., I could probably make it by after work. I'll just try to keep up with my Saturn (baby 4th gen).
