motor swap??

what would be a good motor swap? It would have to be smog legal and be somewhat easy to put in. THe main thing i am worried about is the smog issue. From what i have heard and read so far i'm thinking the LT1. Because i can get it cheap. and i also need tranny to go along with it. thanks guys

If you put in a Lt1, you have to install the wiring harness to match the engine, and you'll need to use the later model computer as well. If you just want to do an engine swap and be smog legal, you need to look at a 350. The ZZ4 technically doesn't have a smog legal cam, but with tpi and a custom chip, they will pass.

Your first concerns are how much money do you have, and how much power do you want? Then we can worry about smog.

A tuned port engine would be at that power level easily, be a lot cheaper and easier than an LT1 swap, and you can keep your current tranny. However you wont have the "cool" factor of the LT1 engine.

well i should change the tranny to. Both the motor and tranny have 172,000 miles on them. HOw much wiring would be involved in putting in a 350 tpi in?

I can repin your harness for $200 like I did mine. Works great! You then just need a TPI set up and 7730 computer. And the 350 0f course. I have a 350 roller throttle body motor and trans available now. (T-5 manual)
