Holiday Dinner....

I'm trying to gauge interest at this point - the date I'm thinking of would be Saturday, December 13th. One suggestion for a location is Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. Mike P. also wanted to explore the idea of a banquet room.

If we can secure a location/reservation for the 13th, who plan's to attend? Everyone please chime in so I can get a head count.

Thanks!

Knott's is really a "no-brainer". We just need 12 people and two hours advance notice to make the reservation. I vote Knotts. I did a QC check tonight on the chicken. They still have great home-style cooking.

Hello boys… sorry for the lack of communication as of late but SEMA really kicked my ***. Between the follow-up, advertising contracts, and shipping companies I haven’t really had a chance to post.

The Knotts chicken house is indeed a choice venue for the get together. However those that attended last years festivities must agree that the intimate setting that we all experienced was amazing. With that said my main concern is the lack of intimacy at the chicken house. It is a large dinning hall and ninety percent of the time it’s filled to capacity. It is of my assumption that the management of the chicken house will pressure us to leave once we have finished eating. Which doesn’t allow for casual conversation, gift exchanges, etc. I (speaking for myself of course) would prefer a venue that allows for such. Before a venue is selected I think we need a positive head count.

We'd be up for it...but it all depends on alex's work schedule(and possibly mine if I get my *** a job somtime soon ) I still have to put my application in to Kragen Auto Parts...what would be really funny is if I get the job there! Alex is working at Pep Boys(*cough*ricercentral*cough*) and Ill be working at Kragen

As for where, I dont really care...it would be nice if it were somewhere north of LA but Im not picky...Is there a menu price range were aiming for? Cause SCV is steakhouse central! Theres probably 6+ to pick from, plus Route 66, etc...

I will go most anywhere.

I love Knotts chicken, but I have the same concerns as RR.

PS Can I put in for a vote to not steal previously picked gifts, as the last person gets the best gift ALWAYS.

That's not necessarily true. When you do the "steal a gift" idea, it's best that a limit is set and a gift can only be "stolen" 3 times. After that, it's off limits. Typically the best gift(s) are secured by the time the last person gets to go and often by the person who originally picked the gift in the first place. I've been at some parties where we've had a really good time with the "steal-a-gift" method.

Of course it helps when everyone involved gets creative with the gifts and brings some interesting stuff. If only two or three people bring something really good while others simply stop in at the local Quick-E-Mart on the way to the party and bring a plastic air freshener, then it isn't as much fun.

Still, there's no reason that we just couldn't put everything in pile and take turns making a selection. Whatever you pick is what you get.

I support the pick-it-out-of-the-pile idea as well. We'll draw names from a hat to pick the picking order.

An easier way is to put a number in the hat for each gift. If their are 20 gifts, then their would be tickets with numbers 1-20. Whoever draws 1 goes first, the guy/girl that draws 20 goes last.

My wife is working Dec13, but I can make it.

Well, we've met the minimum requirement for Knott's which is 12 people.

I was at the sit-down restaurant early October to celebrate birthdays in my family. We sat down at 2:00PM and stayed until 4:00. There was no "pressure" to give up the table. I'd agree with Mike that it can and will get crowded later in the evening. I'd suggest starting early (around 2 PM) so there is less pressure to turn the table. Another option is to contact Knotts and inform them up front that we are holding a Holiday dinner on the 13th arriving at "X":00 PM and expect to be "X" hours, so they can put us in a room that can accomodate that time frame better. For those that don't know, Knotts has many rooms for the Chicken Dinner Restaurant, including some that they hold for wedding receptions and events such as ours. Also, depending on the weather we could plan to arrive earlier to "play" in the park before the event.

This sounds like an excellent suggestion. According to my count, we currently have about 16 people planning to attend so far.

Mmm... Knotts chicken.

I might have to go.

Only other thing I can come up with is since its such a busy place we're not going to be able to park our cars together. But if not everyone's taking their 3rd gen it won't matter. I'll probably take my Durango actually.

If the wife agrees to go that is.

Congrats you two! and good luck! You stole my idea! Im planning on getting married in Vegas, and renting a Vette/Viper/Lambo to cruise around in while were there(mom said thats stupid because of the traffic you wont be able to cruise much-maybe so, but LV drag strip is just a few miles away ) and the parents are paying for a honeymoon suite at any hotel we want(plus my cousin can hook me up at any hotel out there) and the rest of the $15k they would of spent on a big wedding goes towards a down on a house...Course thats just the plan for now, my luck Ill end up marrying a Catholic/Mormon/etc who wants to have a big expensive formal church wedding not my style...

All right I'll tell you again!

Marriage is a great institution IF...

You like to be institutionalized.

I know where Paradise is. Almost moved there once.

Really though! I hope the best for you both and many anniversaries to come.
