Tires

Hey Everybody, I'm back from the dead!

Planning on taking the 'vert out of hibernation in the coming weeks and realized that it's time for some new rubber (the current tires are approx. 10 years old- still have tread, but sidewalls are beginning to crack a little beyond my comfort level).

What is everyone running these days and what are some good tires in the $125-150 +/- price range? (stock size- 245/50 16)

Even after sitting for almost a year, a new battery and it fired right up! Now I just need to change fluids and try and get the bottom of why it won't idle correctly. Intake manifold is seeping a little water, so I'm going to start with the gasket... It hasn't been registered since Jan '04.

Hope everyone is doing OK!

-Jerry O.

Re: Tires

I would recommend the Fuzion ZRi. They're probably the best bang for the buck. They are UHP and Z-rated, and are made for wet and dry conditions. In the stock 245/50/16 size, they are going for $85 each on TireRack.com

I've had them on my car for two years now. Great tires and they have a built in curb guard.

Yoko ES100. Have them on a couple cars, great tire for the price... even price regardless they're pretty good. They're $100/each on Tirerack so figure $125ish locally, plus install.

I forgot what I paid for them, but my current tire of choice is the BFG KDW.

Intake manifold is seeping a little water, so I'm going to start with the gasket.
Check the manifold for corrosion while you're at it. It's not unusual over time for our aluminum intakes (mated to iron heads) to corrode and start to leak. You might need to replace it.

Re: Tires

I just installed the BFG G-Force Sport. Great tire for the money. The KDW is top of the line and a little more money. Problem was they did not come in the 255/50/16 I wanted for the rear.

Re: Tires

You guys are killing me- I have had BFG KDW tires on my Camaro for the last two years and I hate them, They are THAT bad. They doi not hold a candle to the Goodyear GS-D3's I had on here.

I was actually going to ask about both the G-Force and the GS-D3's. I've heard from a few people that the GS-D3's pretty much blow anything away for the money, but that is getting on the high end of what I want to spend. Then again, since I only put a couple thousand miles a year on the car (when it's running...) it's not like I'm going to blow through tires very quickly. The ones that are on there now only have about 35k on them, and they're 10 years old!

On a car that is going to do a lot of sitting, what's everyone's opinion on filling them with nitrogen rather than compressed air?
