We need to get together with Fred and see if its ok with him. Otherwise, if not we need to find a new place. I'd like to propose a get together for the first weekend of January, Saturday the 5th. That will give us a chance to sit down and discuss things and plans.

I can't make it to a meeting at Valencia Chevrolet on the 5th. Scheduling conflict. GS3 will be having their bi-monthly meeting that night.

As far as meetings go, I would like to see them continue. I agree with Kevin that we need to consult with Fred Young first.
The first Saturday in January might be a little tough for everyonew but what about the third Saturday, Jan. 19?

Glenn I dont think there is enough room at Speedzone, and Saturday nights are very very busy for them.
89 TA (whats your name?), we're trying to meet at our usual spot at Valencia Chevrolet.
January 19th works for me, as the 13th is racing at Fontana. However I am concerned with having a meeting ASAP so we can discuss what needs to be discussed.

Maybe consider having meetings sometimes on the weekends and sometimes during the week. This would allow everyone to make at least some of the meetings. Also, location could be rotated. Valencia Chevrolet one month, a restaurant with banquet room in Orange County the next, someone's home or business, etc.

Is this meeting just for club members, how does one become a member? I am interested in joining. I think that it would be cool to hang out with fellow third gen owners.

Let's have the meetings in Los Alamos!
Yeah, I like that idea.
Saturday evening meetings and after meeting cruise is my vote. Maybe I can get some of the other local bro's to go.

Lae, why cant we have a cruise before the meeting, and then meet?
Js91RS, showing up to a meeting is a great way to join the club.
I dont think having rotating meeting places would be good. People would be confused where and when the meeting is, you'd have people showing up to the wrong place, etc. Its one thing to have regular events all over the place, but the meeting should be at the same place every time. Just my thoughts...

Has anyone contacted Fred about continuing to hold meetings there? If Valencia Chevrolet is a no go, then we need to chose a night to hold the club meetings. Once that is decided I can inquire about holding them at SpeedZone. If that is ok with the membership. Yes they have a room that they use for Birthday parties, but I don't know if they require funds to use it on a regular basis. I agree with Kevin that a Friday or Saturday night ther might not work. But a mid-week night may work. Just throwing out other options.

Someone asked earlier in this thread about who could go to meetings. In the past it was open to anyone interrested in club membership. Since we were an informal club with virtually no by-laws, no dues, & no treasury, we didn't really conduct any business. The meeting was mostly show and tell or discussion/organization of upcoming events. At this point I think the meeting would be open to anyone with a 3rd Gen who is interrested in membership.
Regarding questions about location and time.
I work Saturdays. I can occasionally take a Saturday off for a vacation day, or personal holiday, but meeting every other month on a Saturday morning or afternoon would not work for me. For those who want to do a cruise, etc. you guys could organize a cruise during the afternoon to end up at our meeting location in the evening, then any who work on Saturday would still be able to make the meeting. If Valencia Chevrolet is not available, or we want a location closer to Orange County, I believe any restaraunt that has a banquet room will let us have it for the price of a few dinners. Since we generally go to dinner after the meeting,
we could probably get into any restaraunt in the evening. The one problem with a restaraunt is that Friday & Saturday nights
are usually their busy times. The middle of the week limits the distance that people could come to make a meeting due to traffic.

I've e-mailed Fred letting him know about what's gone on, about the forum here, and asking about continuing with the club meetings.
Fred may chime in here, otherwise I'll post what he says.

I'm mostly a lurker and have never been able to get to a meeting. Valencia is an hour and a half drive. No big deal if I only have to do it every other month but I think Sunday is best.
I would say a rotating meeting place is a bad idea. Too easy to get screwed up. Unless it was only 2 locations. odd months in Valencia and even months ??????
Only thing I can suggest is that when it comes to cruises and such that those rotate to various places throughout the lower Cal area. I don't know what's up in the SF or SC area. I do know that the Ortega Hwy area has got some cool roads. Anyone ever been up GMR (Glendora moutain road) to have breakfast at Mt. Baldy or come around to the Azusa cyn route to have lunch at a cool taco joint? Just some of the places I've frequented in the past.

You are further North than I am, and Valencia is only ah hour or less for me. Hmmm, you must drive like a granny. 8^)
thanks Lon. I needed that.
I'll show you how slow I am when I blow by you and suck the headlights from your car.
In actuality I live near the hills and since I can only get onto the 210 from Grand or Lone hill, it takes me longer to get to the freeway than it does to get to Pasadena once I'm on the freeway.
You don't know how much an A the GPD are. They speed trap every thing so you have to be rather speed friendly.

Barry, I specially wrapped my headlights in plastic so that won't happen anymore! Not kidding.

I think Kevin has a good point about having a meeting as soon as possible it will help stabilize a weak foundation. Lets find out who the players are and go forward.

Another option would be a daytime meeting at a park, if Russ has Sundays off.
The first meeting of the So Cal POCI chapter was at a park. Gave us lots of time to discuss things in depth, where at the Chevy dealer we might, I don't know, be limited in the length of time we can use the room.
Resturants aren't bad except on weekends.

If possible, we should hold the next meeting at Valencia Chevrolet as scheduled. Why? Because those who rarely check the 'net can attend and stay up to date on the current going's on regarding the defunct (and new soon to be club). It provides a (excuse the term) "link" for other (and potential) members to make the transition of the old to the new club. At the meeting (which should be held at the same time and scheduled date (unless we want to exclude some members
)) we should discuss a proposed new location (if that is the situation) (which I think a more centralized location should be choosen, further south since the main membership is in that direction. But I digress) we should have an organized schedule of things that need to be addressed (ie: name, meeting location, time and date, blah blah blah ...). Not just useless ramblings of "Oh cool, you added a chrome shifter to your car" or "Yeah, I been chasing this problem for weeks now, and see the spark? Where's that coming from"
Sure, I like BSing about cars and stuff, but there is a time and place ... (you now the rest).
Just my $2.00 (yes, two dollars
).

It appears we can still use Valencia Chevrolet for our regular meetings. The problem I see with waiting until the next "scheduled" meeting for the now defunct club is that would be the first weekend in February. Do we really want to wait that long to get this thing up and running? We have a lot of things on the plate to discuss and accomplish before then. This includes planning for the next West Coast Gathering. Spring will be here before we know it!

I don't see your point (or everyone's for that matter). Are we losing money by not having a meeting/club? Any scheduling for WCG2002 can be done here, as was done previously in 2000.
I just don't see the need to hurry and make a new club, the main thing affected by the loss of SC3GFB was the medium needed to communicate, we have that now. We can proceed as previous with regards to scheduling events and/or porposed new ones or all other things posted. Help me understand why there is a rush to meet ...

I'd still like to suggest we meet on the 3rd Saturday in January. That would be the the 19th.
With the holidays coming up, people are going to get very busy. I think that date gives everyone time to deal with their personal commitments, yet isn't too far away.
My feeling on all of this is that I'd like to see the core of what the SC3GFB was to stay intact. That's one reason I moved so quickly in getting a new club established.
The old club ended abruptly, without warning, and I just wanted to see to it that we stay somewhat organized.

I have not attended any meetings as it's a long drive from San Diego. Going up is would not be bad but come home after the meeting.... well, let's just say I am not a night owl anymore (damn work). If some place was closer to say Kevin's dad's shop, us San Diego guys could attend more. Just a thought.

Obviously you have never seen Kevins dads shop. It's a working shop, not much room.
I would open my house to a meeting. With a little rearranging we could fit 20 people in the family room easy, 30 if they are female and cute. And it's about a mile form the 5 and 55 interchange in Tustin.

I dont think he meant having it at my dad's shop, I think he meant someplace near my dad's shop, as its in Orange County and kinda the middle point between the LA, IE, and SD guys (and gals). Its also near the Block, and the Dromo-1 go-carts.
Thanks Kevin for clearing this up. You are right, some place near your Dad's shop as it's not that bad of a drive, on a weekend. During the week, heck I won't drive 5 miles North of where I live. I HATE traffic! Keep me posted.
BTW, I still love the SFC your dad installed.
