Junkyard Run ???
I was talking to Nick S. on sunday, and we discussed having a junkyard run sometime in January. Who else on here would be interested? Chances are that we might have to go to local ones in SFV, but I'll ask Nick S. if he is willing to go out further. Anyone know of better 'yards then those in the Sylmar area?

Sounds good to me! I believe there is also supposed to be a good Pick-A-Part here in Ontario. But I am in for a cruise and junkyard run :-)

The Pick-a-part in ontario is great...Its organized so well that you can easily find all the Camaro/Firebird parts that you need. Anyone willing to do a junkyard run at that one can count me in.

How about Long Beach? This was proposed to me as having a good selection. Any input? So far everyone going seems to want to go local to their area.

There are several good yards close together in Wilmington. I already scouted the lunch spot with George Scala & Lisa's help last Sunday.

Well, if no other input is presented in the next couple of days, Wilmington it is. Georgie boy mentioned (in the GS3 forum) that I will like it, let's hope so.
Hi Georgie Lara!!! (That's what you get for calling me that!!!!!!)
Ya, I'll bet you'll like it! The food is so good, that you'll wet your mouth just thinking about it! Right Lon? Ha! It's a nice meal for after all that parts picking! I don't think that anyone will complain about lunch at all! I have yet to meet anybody who complained about the food there!
As for the junk yards down here in Wlmington, there are three within blocks of each other! I got some free passes for one yard, and the other two yards cost $2.00 to get into(each)! I've gotten some really good stuff out there at all three yards! I'm picking up quite a bit of extra 20th TTA related items! I just got a wraparound rear spoiler there in pretty good shape! Just needs to be sanded and repainted! It has cracks in the paint, but none that I can see in the spoiler itself! It sure doesn't hurt to have spares!
So, if you all come on down (or up) here, expect some good eating after a long day
! No, I'm not paying! Anyone else? HeHe!
Just let me know times and such!
Talk to you all later,
George

How does Sat Jan 5th sound to everyone? I would like to get the run done early in Jan as I would like to get the car back together by mid- Jan so I can make it to a test day at Buttonwillow and shake the car down before the first event of the year.

Hi all!
The 5th sounds good to me! I guess we can meet at my house! If that's cool with everybody! On a side note, the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show starts then too! Anybody planning on going to that?
Russ,
Hi to you! Both Lisa and me are doing good! Althought Lisa is complaining about the parts and such moving us out of the house! Ha!
Back to all,
How do you all want to handle getting here? Mini-caravans to here (my house)? Let me know if anybody needs my address or directions on how to get here. Sorry I don't have a way to get everybody to the yards! Unless you all want to stand up in the back of my '59 Chevy Longbed Pickup (With a straight six-should take us an hour to go down the street! Ha!)! We can leave some cars at my house, if you want!
So......what time????
Have a good one all,
George

Wilmington works for me. Its not that far away, and if the pickings is good its worth it.
So, seeing as I haven't been on a junkyard run before what should I plan on bringing? I'm assuming I'll need a collection of tools and stuff. Any tipsor suggestions?

I have no preference on time so I'll let the group pick it.
As for driving down, I have my LBT. I can carry 4 people as long as 2 don't mind sitting in the bench seat in the back of the cab. I'm comming from the SFV, so I can pickup anyone we want on this way. I'm also up for taking it to the yards as there's plenty of room in the bed to haul stuff.

Yo Nick,
I'd be up for tagging along with you in the truck. Let's all figure out a time we want to meet up.
I'll bring the ball joint separator and hand-held sledge hammer if anyone else needs suspension stuff.

). Ok, here's a list of what I'm after:
Front headlight support (These are the same for all years right?)
Front nose piece (Only if I can find the right year car)
Rear glass hinge bolt (I'm down to 3 so far for some reason)
A-arms (If they are cheap enough)
Spindles (Gonna see what it'll take to mod them for 1LE brakes)
Alum front bumper
WC T5 (Hey, I can wish can't I?)
The list is pretty short

Nick, yes the front supports are the same, or interchangeable. As for the front bumper cover, I have one from a green 1992 RS (same as the Z28) that I had bought a while back. You are welcome to have it if you don't find one in good condition at the yards. I'll off it to you for only ~$50 (I paid somewhere around $120, IIRC).

Nick,
I'm also after some spindles to modify for the 1LE set-up. Basically, you need to cut off the "ears" for the stock calipers, then drill and tap holes for the 1LE mounting brackets.
Here's a more detailed description:

Ideally, I'd like to see us get together around 9 AM, start "hunting" by 10 AM. Of course the "host" will have to approve of the arrival time.
I'll see if I can get a hold of him before the big day (been very busy with family business these few days).

Your Santa is crazier than mine.
Guys,
Anytime is good with me! I'll be up by 6AM (Gotta have my Starbuck's)! So, if you can't call me by Friday, just either post a time here on this message tread, or I'll just see you all when you show!
Weather so far looks good for Saturday!
See you all this weekend!
George

Nick,
If it's no problem for you to pick me up that would be cool, otherwise I can meet you at your place. I'll shoot you an e-mail tonight and we'll figure it out.

Anything you may think you need, plus the rest of us should have tools that others didn't think of.

Well, it looks like I'm out for the yard run.
The good news is I picked up my custom brake line and it looks great.
The bad news is I borrowed my mom's Caddy today and just noticed while driving it that there is a small whisp of smoke coming behind the steering wheel where the air bag and horn are located.
So, I need to take the car into the dealership tomorrow (thankfully Rydel in Reseda is open on Saturdays) for her to get it checked out. Needless to say, it's a little unerving driving the car now. There's a chance the airbag could unload unexpectedly.

Plastic should be OK at all of them. If in doubt call them using directory assistance or switchboard.com to get their numbers. Lon
Ok, its down to 4 of us. I'll go ahead and load everything up into a portalble tool box. It just occured to me, I don't have a Dolly or anything with wheels on it to cart tools and parts around with. Hopefuly someone will have one I can throw things in or it won't be too far of a walk back and forth.

Yeah what did you guys find, when is another one happening. I could not go because I always work Saturdays. I hope you guys scored somethings worth your trips. Was it the Wilmington one? Well there's two there that I know of and I have never really found much, they have a lot for 88 or 89 and up cars thats costs extra and I never have been lucky enough to find thirdgens int hat section. The general area is loaded with thidgen but most are berlinettas and V6s. Still I have a learned a lot just taking things apart. Any of you guys remember the good time had at Mauro's takeing apart his wrecked car party? it was fun as hell.
