How long do bronze dist. gears last?

I have had bad luck changing my distributer in the past, so I am thinking of putting a bronze gear on my new (used, but new to me) MSD pro billet dist.

When I first installed my new engine with the "Hot cam" I put the stock distributer back in and about 6 miles down the road the car died. Come to find out, the gear ate itself, or the cam gear ate it. I did alot of research and found I had the right gear on the dist. but it had a wear pattern and the new cam did not. I bought a new "melonized" gear from GM and it has been fine since. Now, the cam is about 2 years old and I want to put a new dist. in, but the gear on the dist. is slightly used. Should I put a new "melonized" gear on or use a bronze gear? I drive the car every day, so that is a factor. I refuse to pull the motor out and tear it down again for a simple but costly problem. Thanks guys/gals...

Dont use a bronze gear it will eventually eat itself up. The melonized gear you got from GM should be fine , I'm am using that one with my hot cam and it has been on four different cams.

Can you remove the melinized gear from your current distributor and install it on the new one? That way you get a gear that has already been working with the gear on your cam, and the two should be seated in to each other.
