She's cornering pretty flat these days. Mods include Jamex springs, AC/Delco HD shocks and struts, Edelbrock STB, 245/50/16 rain tires (see the puddle??) and a wonderbar. Not bad, considering the rest of it's 16 years old, huh?

At least she's keeping up with the Talons and BMWs...

are those GTA wheels you're running? looks sweet man, what class are you running in and how well do you do compared to other cars. also, what tires are you running and what would you run when its dry? I have to run in STU for the local events and SM for the divisionals due to my engine swap, and with running street tires, Im always getting completely spanked. buts its still fun. I think as soon as I get some autox tires I'll be good to go.
Wow...
I knew you guys would appreciate her, the folks on the appearance board are cutting the ol' girl to shreds! Seems nobody likes the wheels and the silver ground effects.
Tom: thanks for the compliments. That means a bunch considering your car's always been one of my all-time favorites. Reading your tales of canyon carving and playing with the Supras, C5s and Vipers has prompted me into making my car handle. Sure, we don't have canyons out here, but I bet she'd keep up! Thanks again, that made me feel AWESOME!
TejasLT1: I'm classed in ESS right now with some TSi's, a couple Laser RS's and the like. Ususally I get romped on, but this time I was running street tires (like always) and whipped up on a guy running race rubber on his modded TSi...felt nice. Yeah, they're GTA wheels, stripped and polished lips, they don't look too bad. I'd hold off on race rubber. Get your seat time so your skill is where it should be for the car you're running, then mod it very slowly. I'm running competitive times to cars with R-compound tires on, and it's driving sooth that does it. Try not to overdrive the car. Good luck!

Great pic......looks great. But who in the world would want to put those wheels on a Camaro....LOL The American Sedan racers don't like them for nothing. They're the lightest stock wheel as far as I know. Keep enjoying it!!

damn guys, those are awesome pics. I love the GTA rims too, they look good with silver ground effects. Plus, form follows function and if they're light, run em.
I wish i had a scanner cause i have a sweet pic of me in my spifire turning so hard the right front tire is a half inch off the ground.

On the subject of crosslaced wheels .....
... our AS has several sets of them. That is because they are the lightest wheel they've made. Several of the GM camps run them.
Hey Bill...
Yeah, I haven't had the car out yet this year. I don't know if it will make any outings this season... :-(
It has 13" slicks, over 500hp, and NO BRAKES!!!
WHEEE!!!!
Anyway, I'm re-working the suspension angles while I'm doing the brakes, so it's kind of a double-whammy.... (read: expensive)
The new lot is MUCH better... I'll take unsealed asphalt over sealed anyday.... Of course, concrete will make you feel like Superman, but we don't have that option.....
See you in tech in about 2 weeks....

Tom84L69 - that is correct on being at Mid-Ohio. Tiger Racing is currently sporting a new Z06 in the T1 class and still running the 3rd Gen in the AS class.
We do maintain several T2 cars, all 4th Gen Camaros. One is the orange 99 from a couple of seasons ago, a black Z (the VooDoo Doll) and one other, for now.
I didn't make that last trip. My next one is to 'the Glen' in July and then back to Mid-Ohio to the Runoffs in Sept.

awesome cars you maintain, do you rent those out or does each driver own their own rides? My dad and i have been thinking about an AS thirdgen but our g prod spitfire is so much fun to drive that it's hard to give it up. this is my first year in nationals, got my first win last weekend at grattan.

The drivers own the cars, some are previous years cars that Tom raced, and some are new. They are maintained by Tom Oates Chev. I'm just a volunteer crew member at the tracks that helps out where I'm needed.
Whether it's helping to do a 27 minute differential change in the AS Camaro between rounds at the runoffs because the driver/owner wanted a taller gear, our just getting a driver strapped in and ready. It gets you close to the action.

oh ok, i thought you were oates himself, do they own a chevy dealer? i sometimes volunteer for dj racing and his corvettes, they are running the touring challenge for corvettes at SCCA regionals. it's got to be the closest thing to actually racing out there. that's how i got into racing, and now it's turned into big money spent on my father's part!

it's Tom Oates Chevrolet in Chester Springs, PA. I met them a few years back at an SCCA National event. I was 'scrutineering' at the event.Tom builds T1 & T2 cars at his dealership. Chris Trapp heads up that depatment and is the 'crew chief' of the team.
It is great fun on race week-end to be in the middle of all the action. I still participate in 'open track' sessions that are held thru N.A.S.A. to get my fix for 'the need to speed'. Hoping to get the 87 T/A up to Summit Point for their June 22nd/23rd event.

DM91rs - not only did we have to clean up after that, but after getting run up over the curbing in 6 and cutting down a tire, the drivers side G/Fx had to be replaced. What a great week-end of racing.
