Well my cars been sitting for quite a while now,cause i been to busy to do anything with it.I took it for a ride and noticed i barely had any brakes at all.I noticed my rear passenger side brake caliper was leaking so i left the car sit till i was ready to rebuild the brake caliper...

Since then i might of taken the car around the block with barely any brakes just so i had the car run with out constantly sitting...

Well me and a buddy rebuilt the caliper and now it dont leak a single drop,and we bled the brakes too,but now its still almost the same problem again but the only difference is i dont leak brake fluid.I step on the brakes and the car will stop,but it takes really long,its very hard to stop.You can try to lock them up and it seems delayed,its weird,you step on the pedal and the car slowly stops no matter what. I know if im driving fast and i go to stop im done.

Does anyone have any clue whats going on,i dont know anything about brakes.I heard if might be my master cylinder thats shot,or maybe the combination valve,or maybe the brake booster..Anyone please help...Thanks...Al in NJ

 

Are the brakes easier to apply when eng is running, or is it the same as eng not running?
If it's the same, I'd bet the booster is leaking, or not getting vacuum from the intake.

With a normal system, brakes are easy to apply with eng running. Right after eng is shut off, you should be able to apply brakes easily 2 or 3 times, then the vacuum is used up and braking gets a LOT harder.

 

Well,i believe the brakes are easier to apply when the car is running.After i shut the engine i can pump it easily about 2 or 3 times then the brakes get stiffer.I do notice that when the car is running,when i first apply the brakes they go down real easily and the more i pump the brakes when im driving,the more the brakes feel stiffer.

Im really wondering now about a brake booster leak,im gona have to check this out again when i get a chance and ill have to see what happens to be sure.I heard maybe my master cylinder burned out due to no fluid in it for so long and me occasionally driving the car around the block or starting it up.Is that possible?

Sounds like you have air in the brake lines or possibly a bad master cyl.
If you can pump the brakes easily 2 or 3 times after shut down, I don't think you could have a leaking booster.
Get some sort of "one man" brake bleeder kits (mine cost abt $5)
and some brake fluid.

On my kit, which is simply a check-valve and abt 18" of clear tubing, I had to remove the bleeder screw, clean it up with a wire brush, and apply teflon tape to the threads. This allows the bleeder screw flow fluid out the middle, and prevents air from entering around the threads of the bleeder screw while bleeding.

Bleed the brakes.

i want to clear things up for the record, for the sake of the search button and surprisingly Google search (kid you not)...TO TEFLON TAPE THE BLEEDER SCREW, or NOT TO TEFLON TAPE, THAT IS THE QUESTION.-peace
