whats needed for a drum to disk rearend swap?
i have a 91 camaro that had a drum brake rearend which i'm replacing with a 87 or 88 TransAm 9bolt disk brake rearend. What all has to be changed for the brakes to work correctly?

I did that swap about 4 months ago when my rear went in my 88 iroc. It was the only limited slip rear i could find so i said why not try...But the only thing that your need to change is the proportioning valve, everything else lines up. Since I changed it i haven't had any problems, and i can lock up all 4 better than i could with the drums.

I assume that the rear will come with the ebrake cables. I suggest you buy a new flex hose. Will this new rear have the same gear ratio as the old one? If it does then just bolt it in. If it doesn't you will have to cahnge the speedo gear in the tail shaft of the trans. This link will help you: http://www.sethirdgen.org/vss.htm
i got everything figured out except for the PV. i'm not sure which one i need to get the correct pressure for the rear brakes. I got one that came from the same car as the new rearend but it doesn't hook up the same. the lines go in to differant places on it.

The P.V. you have should be fine. You will however have to change the entire parking brake pull-up lever assembly. Yours has no center threaded rod to adjust the tension on the e-brake calbles. If you do as I did and buy new e-brake cables from GM you may find they have an integral spring at the end that has to be cut off. I used a abrasive blade in a air die grinder. Just keep a wet rag handy to keep it cooled. Otherwise it will melt the plastic sheath covering the stranded e-brake cable. Lon

Ok, now I am confused. I have an 89 bird that originally had drum brakes. I did have the adjustable center section in the tunnel. When I swapped to the late model disc setup, the new ebrake lines had a spring on the end (at the caliper). Do I need to take this spring off? There is already a rather large spring on the caliper itself.. does this work in conjunction with the spring on the cable?

The change in brake mechanism must have been made with the 90 model year. Mine had no provision for adjusting at the yoke. Yet my 88 Iroc did. I tried using my stock e-brake lever. But I couldn't get it to tighten enough to hold the car when parked. I first tried crimping a spacer on the cable, but it didn't work. I gave up and swapped in the old style parking brake lever mechanism. Lon
