factory calipers 3rd and 4th gens

I have a question about calipers for you guys. The 1LE used aluminum twin piston front calipers. I see on some later models front cast iron twin pistons. Why? Bigger or smaller pistons and same brackets?

Same question for the rears . I think 89 GM wnet to teh aluminum rear caliper with the better E brake than they designed in 79(ratchet type). But may later models have a cast iron rear caliper, sometimes in front sometimes in the back, what's up with that ?

front calipers

82-92 iron single piston

89-92 1LE only - alum. PBR dual piston

93-97 iron double(?) piston

98-up alum. double piston

rear calipers

82-88 iron crap

89-97 alum. double piston; sliding caliper e-brake

98-up alum. I assume double; internal drum e-brake

drum rear brakes were used until 1997; believe only on V6 models after 92 though.

Are the later calipers PBR types? Piston sizes? The latest models bigger or just different?

It seems all the manufacturers are using that type floating caliper now(guide bracket) instead of floating on the bolts.

My wife's new Avalanche has some massive calipers that use that style guide bracket
