How long do springs last?

How long do springs last? The suspension on my Formula is as mushy as an old caddy. Should I get springs and struts/shocks or are just struts/shocks in order? Its got 171k miles.
thanks

It really depends on how much weight has been on them and what kind of abuse they've seen. I would guess that the "average" coil suspension spring should have a life span of 10-20 years before they've lost their spring rates and should be changed.
The only way to tell if the springs are bad is to have the ride height checked at an alignment shop.

I'm 48.......as far as the old fart part you'll have to pull my finger and see
LOL
Couldn't stand it any longer Tas. HAHA!
Anyway how are the shocks on your car. I have Red Koni's and the car even with "older springs" handles and drives very well. I use springs off an 88 TA. The rears are trimmed and the fronts are soon to be when I install the 1LE brakes.
Also all of your bushings are probably ready to be replaced. Controls arms and sway bars. My car corners decently flat for the few susp. mods that I have. I run the 36mm front and the 24/25mm rear bars as Jay Morris suggested and they have worked well on two of these cars for me.
See ya

Stock springs are worn out the minute they put them in the car, by any kind of handling or performance standards. Good aftermarket ones last about 5-10 years in typical street usage before they become noticeably weaker.
the shocks are totatly worn out. I'm wondering what to do to stiffen the WS6 back up like how it was when I first got it 6 years and 100k miles ago. It use to ride like a slot car. Now it rides like an old ladys Caddy.
THANKS!

Glad to see someone noticed, I've actually been here (Cinci area) since the 1st of the year. I finally got around to changing my "from" a few days ago...
They transferred me. Moved the department I work in.
At least they paid the moving bill and all that. What a massive PITA. It's not as bad here as some people say so far, but I liked it a lot better out in So Cal.
