Chassis and Suspension questions

Hello

Im looking for information on Chassis and Suspension mods and parts mostly I have been looking at Global West parts for the rear.
Im planning on installing a 9" or 12 bolt rear.

I want to upgrade the front suspension and lighten the front with tubular parts but Im having trouble finding the parts to do it.

Also any info on subframe connectors would be help full.

Thank you
Chris

Global West is working on a tubular front A-Arm design for 3rd gens. that will be out the start of next year. It will definately be worth the wait. Their current A-Arm applications for other vehicles are second to none! We are talking large tube design and and lots of gussets----Things I can tell you first hand from being in the machine area and checking out their products first hand. I've had other tubular products (from other companies) break on me from weak design, that won't happen with Global West Products.

Hey, how do you manage to get into GW's machine area and see what they are prototyping? Take some spy shots!

I was there buying some parts and was B.S.ing with a guy named Doug (one of my brothers knows him fairly well) and he just let me roam about while I was waiting for some stuff to be done. I would think the way things are set up down there that anyone could take a peek, they don't seem to mind.

The GW A-arms will be great. Hopefully they won't be ultra-expensive.

Hotchkis told Tom K. and I on our tour that they won't make them for our cars, stating the R&D would cost too much and they would have to charge something like $1200 for a pair. It's not a worthwhile investment for them.

One of the guys in our club fabbed up his own tubular A-arms for coil overs and mentioned a buddy of his was working on a set for factory springs that would include jack screws for adjusting the front suspension. No recent updates though.

Hey oneslo, how is that 327 working in your car? Would you say its a good motor for a thirdgen? I am thinking of building a 327 or destroking my engine to a 377 in the future. I have been thinking of maybe building a turbo 327, since it would be rev happy.

Thanks for all the help if Global West is making
A-arms soon I think Ill wait for them does anyone know if they are going to make a K-member with them. There is a race chassis shop here that said they could make me one but would run me about $1500 thats a little to steep for me.

Has anyone used or know anyone that has used products from PA (Performance Automotive)
they sell tubular A-arms and K-members and the prices arn't bad but I have never heard of them.

Thanks again

The 327 is a great engine and yes it is great in a 3rd gen car only problem I have had with it is getting headers to fit without hitting the sub-frame makes it sound like it has a knock at idle I have got that fixed now with poly engine mounts a a few dents in the tubes.

It makes great power up high but not much down low it is a better road race or auto cross engine than drag race engine but it will hold its own on the strip.
But as you will always hear from the big block crowd the only replacement for cubic inches is cubic dollars.
I am a small block fan I love the high RPM's that the 327 can turn safely as long as your valve train can handle them. If your going to put the money in to it and you want a real rev happy engine I would build a 302 chevy and add a turbo or supercharger.

327 is 4" bore and 3.25" stroke
302 is 4" bore and 3" stroke

302 would require custom pistons I doubt you would be able to find any original GM pistons but about any aftermarket company will have them.

I have heard that GM made a 260 something V8 in the late 80's and 90's that has a 3" stroke and is a one piece rear seal crank I doubt it is forged so Im not sure you would want to use it for high RPM or forced air.

Hope I have been of help
