Spohn TA "Clunks" when put in reverse

Hey steve, I had called you about the torque arm banging when going around turns the other day, and you had mentioned it hitting the frame somewhere, and I did locate it banging the rear drivers side e-brake bracket, couldn't bang it out of place, but atleast I located that. The newest problem is that when I put my trans into reverse, wether from park or drive, the whole trans or TA, I don't konw which, gives a harsh "clunk". Any idea what this could be from or if somethign is loose?? And one other thing, my traction is still not gripping too well, what is the most ammount of angle you can set the TA at without doing damage to the driveshaft?? Thanks for all your help steve, and I love the product.

could it be your u-joints?

mine make that sound all of the time, then i replaced them, worked pretty good for a while, then i did some burnouts and stuff, and they clunked for a while. not any more tho, no engine.

how do you like the torque arm? is there any noticable difference? and in what does it improve?

If you're absolutely positive it's the Torque Arm this may not help, but my '89 RS (6 cyl) had a similar problem. I had the tranny dropped to replace a freeze out plug, and upon reinstallation the tranny crossmember wasn't lined up just right and caused a clunking. The clunking also occured when I got off the gas while driving. Hope this helps.

Well, the torque arm possible being a hair off center might be a possibilty, i'll have to drop and and put it back up again to find out... not sure about the u-joints... they're still original from 83, and are very loose, but i wouldnt' think would cause a clunk like that. I'm all out of other ideas, not sure what else to check. I really like the torque arm so far, i just put a TH350 in, and it made the whole process really easy, and didn't need any changeover crapola, and it's really helped with traction and stability, just wanna get this figured out. Anyone else haev any ideas?? thx.

Worn U-joints will definately cause a clunk when going into gear and going from D to R and vise versa.
