Car pulls right when braking???

When I step on the brake in my '89 IROC, the car pulls to the right. When driving, the car goes straight down the road with no pulling. To try and resolve this, I have had two sets of pads swapped, I have swapped two sets of calipers and rotors, brake lines and had two alignments. Each thing I do makes it a little better, but it still pulls to the right when braking. It doesn't matter if the road is flat or tilts to the right. It has done this since I bought the car. Can anyone provide some assistance with this?

Thank you,
Andy

Frequent topic....it's either the caliper or the hose. I'd replace both and go from there. Cheap fix.

How old are your brake hoses?? If original it time to replace them.
That should cure your problem.

well if your tire pressure is even, and the brake are good and if the brakes are bleed right and ever thing is working.. not sure

you said you got brake lines does that mean hoses?

By Brake lines, yeah I meant hoses. Tire pressure is even. I had the idler arm replaced too as it looked worn. Everything else looks good though. I don't understand it. I even had new struts installed a few months ago. Something must be bent then or twisted. I appreciate ya'lls input on this. If ya can think of anything, please let me know.

Thank you,
Andy

if it's pulling there are only a few things that can cause this.

but, i'm going to tell you right off with mine it was once because of the caliper was failing and it was mainly do to rubber hoses. changed to braided lines and i'll never go back.

good luck

Hoses hoses hoses. Most definely hoses. I know because i had the exact same problem for 3 months. I just changed out my hoses on Sunday and its all better. Ifyour planning on doing a brake upgrade in the future save your money and get stock replacemnts. No need to spend tons of $$$ on steel braided lines and then not be able to use them after you upgrade. But yes its your hoses change BOTH of them.

Yep, had the same problem with my '85 TA. After a while, the hoses get clogged up with junk, and this will also cause lots of lost braking power also. Replace the hoses, you will feel a BIG difference no doubt.

Just curious....how hard to you have to hold down the brake pedal when stopped? I know on my 92 it took quite a bit of leg strength to stand still. thats why i eneded up changing them. If your not covinced its the hoses take it to Midas or Wheel Works or whatever local shop you have and ask them to do a brake inspection. its usually like 20 bucks. They will tell you whats up, and then you can take your car home and do the work yourself. Just remember though, if they cant pin point the exact problem its most likely hoses. They will be looking for warped or undersized rotors, frozen calipers and ****ty pads. If all of that checks out ok its your hoses. I just did this on Sunday......its the hoses.

I appreciate all the input here. I have had both hoses up front replaced. It has also been in the hands of two shops. One of which told me it is fine, and the other is desperatly trying to help. The second shop is the one who swapped out the hoses, and calipers (twice), rotors, brake pads(twice) and the struts and idler arm. Maybe I should give the steel braided hoses a shot and see what happens. Thanks for the the help on this. Hopefulley the steel ones would help.

Check your bearings and ball joints for play.......if these arent tight this can also lead to pulling to one side.

My car also pulls to the right when I press the brakes hard. I have also changed everything and sometimes it gets better for a while then it will get worse. Next summer I am going to redo the brakes completely. hopefully that will fix it

I had the same problem, I had the front brakes replaced and I still have the problem.

Is it possible to put shims on our calipers? That's how I solved the problem on a Dirt Mod I work on..

I didn't really look good so that's why I'm asking

Seems like youguys have replaced the hoses and all, but how 'bout doing a pressure check to see if you're getting good pressure at all 4 calipers/wheel cylinders?

Could be the prop valve or M/C....maybe a clogged hard line??

My buddies 92 V6 had that problem. I put new hoses on and it fixed it. My 91TA is having similar problems but can't quite figure out what it is. A shop told me my rear drums, pads and wheel cylinders were all shot in the rear end. They said this is my problem. What do you guys think? I didn't get anything fixed cause I want to buy a whole new rearend in spring anyway, but just curious.

i had the same problem and when i relaced the bushings betweeen the frame and the control arm and also the ball joints everything smoothed out. what was happening was when i was breaking i i noticed the car pulled bad and i looked and there was a huge *** gap where the bushing is suppose to be which is between the subframe and the controle arm and my controle arm was shifting back and forth with brake pressure.

I had this problem, it was when i replaced one rotor with a new one and didn't change the other rotor until later on. It caused my car to pull to one side when braking.

This may be a shot deep in left field but you say the car has done it since you owned it . Has it ever been in a wreck? A damaged frame can cause this when a load is applied to the front of the car. 1 in a millon chance but you never know. Take a tape measure and meaure diagnol from 4 points under the hood

You running the same size tires on both sides up front?
Maybe the left brake line has a kink in it somewhere under the chassis or hood
