Rear End Does a Wiggle During 1 - 2 Shift

Hi gang,

My 86 Sport Coupe 305 700r4 has always done a little wiggle when it does the one - two shift, when I'm giving her a good dose of the pedal.

Does anyone else's do that and what might be the cause of it?

Worn out bushings in the rear. Get the full poly kit for like $130 or just buy the rear pieces individually. How many miles on the car?

Mine does that, but I have a shift kit in it. When it shifts from 1-2 at WOT, it breaks the tires loose.
If you ever watch on TV when they do runs on the street with high HP engines, and they are filming directly from behind the car, you'll see the back end break loose and shift a bit. It's the engine over powering the tires.

Mine has a pretty hard 1 - 2 shift alright, and it does make the right rear break loose and chirp. And it is sort of cool when it does the wiggle

Makes it look like it's packing serious hp

I'm not exactly sure on what the 'wiggle' is, but one suggestion could be bad wheel bearings on one side, especially with those high KM's.

I added BMR PHR and LCA's and it got rid of that problem.

No, I just had the rear end rebuilt.

Oh sorry I didnt know you were loosing traction, I thought the car was just wiggling back and forth. Maybe try some aftermarket LCA's.

hmmm.....well i would say that in order to stop that you have two options:

1. Purchase a 2x4 of wood and place under pedal to insure no WOT which may cause tractions loss.

==OR==

2. Purchase one dozen eggs as this may take some getting used to. Place an egg under the gas pedal, everytime it cracks try a new one until the egg no longer cracks and your traction problems should be solved.

I'm not really losing traction, just getting a chirp on the one - two shift from time to time.

Are you still running the stock shortblock, dude?
If so, congrats! I like to see people getting their money's worth out of an engine.

EDIT: Wait a sec, I just realized that I have 249,000 kms, so I guess your mileage isn't TOO far off!

Things are just pulling to one side or the other slightly while the posi slacks and the reingages into second gear. This is why true drag cars run spools so they don't get any side to side action.

Then that really explains things. It'll move to a side even worse with an open axle. The power is routed more to one side than the other.

Umm.. no. But if I get rich again any time soon then I might know where you can get a used 385.

I don't have any plans to go to Calgary in the forseeable future.
