Springs, I know, I know..been asked!
hey guys,
I just purchased me a set of DropZone lowering springs, I couldnt pass up the deal,,,only $101.00 including shipping. I think you guys think their crap but we will see....They gotta be better than stock?
Anyways my question is, is it mandatory that a panhard bar be put in when lowering the rear? to keep the rear centered? I have read that some people have and others havent...whats the word on this topic?
Also, the springs I got are suppose to lower th car 1 3/4 in the front and 1 1/2 in the rear and i have read that stock spring height puts the car at 27in. from floor to the lip on the front fender, thats what my car is at now. Does that mean that my stock springs are still holding their stiffness and havent sagged any?
I called the guy about the springs and he was pretty informative about them but couldnt give me a spring rate on them "like I even know the difference" he said that he weighs about 230 and stood up on one of them and it didnt compress none...is that good or bad?
I dont know, I think im just babbling about this manely cause im nervous about screwing my car all up when I put them in...you know the scraping the underbody, the rear not being centered, the car being to low...hell I dont know...
sorry!
If it sits lower than stock and handles atleast as good as it does now with the stock springs...I'll be satisfied...

That drop is about what the Sportlines are. I had mine on for about a year before I put my adjustable panhard rod on. It will push the rear to the right a little but I don't think that it is a real concern safety wise. You will want one eventually though.
Make sure that you get an alignment right after you put the new springs on though.

Well I don't know anything about DropZones specifically but they will certainly lower your car a lot more than that pic u attacted. As for the spring rates they will be pretty high, well over 230lbs. It's not mandatory to get a panhard rod, but more importantly an adjustable one as the car will be shifted over to the right IIRC. Also you should get a pair of LCA relocation brackets as well. I could go on forever about the effects lowering springs have on our cars, so ur best bet is to do a search for more detailed info, as it is a very common question.

So I just cant add the springs? Im going to have to get the LCA relocation brackets too? What happens if I dont add the brackets?
When I take it to get it an alignment they will be able to tell me that the rear is not lined up cause they do that four wheel alignment thingy,,,HUH?
That pciture is how it sits now...just taken a few days ago...Im assuming the springs will kill the gap in the fender..I hate that!
thanks guys

The lca relocation brackets will help but again, I didn't have them for over a year after I put the springs on (put the panhard, relocation brackets and lca's on at the same time. The only problem you will have is that the tires will break loose a little easier.
As far as the shop telling you that the rear axle is moved over, that won't be necessary. You will be able to see it. It is not that far but you can tell. Measure before you put the new springs on and after.
If you want to do it absolutely right then don't put the springs on until you have the adjustable panhard and the LCA relocation brackets. But, if you want to put the springs on now, it is not that big of a deal. This is primarily a street driven car right?

Yeah, its more or less a street car but I do or should I say want to go to the track more this coming year to try and better my 1/4 mile times...The alignment is not a problem as I paid Firestone $100 2 years ago for thier lifetime alignment so I can go once a week if I want.
hey Schultzy89GTA, you got a picture of your car? Also what kind of Panhard bar, relocation brackets and stuff you got and how much did you pay? When I put the adustable bar on how will I know that its adjusted right? I just like to find out all I can before I jump into a project like this.
thanks for the info.

It's almost all Spohn stuff. He makes great products and supports the site so it is an easy choice for me. As far as price just go to his site.
Let's see...
Spohn Adjustable LCA's and LCA Relocation Brackets
Spohn Adjustable Torque Arm
Spohn Adjustable Panhard Bar
Spohn SFC's
Hotchkis STB
Global West Frame Brace (aka Wonder Bar)
Energy Suspension poly sway bar bushings and end links
As far as adjusting the rear end there are several points that you can measure from. The adjustable panhard is kinda cool because you can adjust it and see the rear move as you go. I eyeballed it and was within 1/8 inch when i measured. It's not a real big deal. Hey, I did it!
Here are a few pics...
I got rid of the tips in that pic and i am running quad borla tips now.

panhard bars
i put on the ajustible because just the sagging of the rear springs was moving my rearend off center close to 1/4 inch so i'm guessing that yours will be off between 1/4-1/2 inch.as for ajusting the panhard bar it.s easy, just loosen the jam nuts and turn the bar ino way makes it longer the other way shorter.thats with the spohn bar .the lakewood sucks as you have to take one end out of it's mount and turn it then force it back in.

Yeah but when adding lowering springs which say a 1.5 in drop in the rear, how much will the rear be off set? once back on the ground.

IIRC it will only be off by like 3/4 - 1 inch. Most people will not even notice it with a casual glance.

Well my springs came in today. I guess I'll tackle the job of putting them in over the weekend.
Seeing that these are my first set of springs I guess theres really no way of telling if they are not good campared to others, HUH?
Is there any way of being able to tell that these springs suck or not?
I mean I read people saying that other springs are no good but Im sure that person did not go out and buy a set of every spring and try them out...
