How loud are heim joints?

I can get a pair of LCA's made up really cheap with heim ends. Does the noise they create sound like an annoying rattle, or is it more of just a road vibration? Also, if you keep them well greased, how long will they last (I've done a search, but results have been somewhat vague). I'll probably still end up getting the Lakewoods for $90, but a pair of these should only cost between $40 and $50 (I know the $40 difference isn't that big of a deal in the whole scheme of things). I'm just trying to gauge whether or not I would like the heims.

When new and greased, they are quiet. When they start to wear, they make a clunk sound. On bumpy roads, sounds like a box of tools loose in the back. I replaced mine rod end after like 4 years. There was still life left in it, it was just getting too loud for my taste.

If you are going to put heims into a car you should make sure that there very high quality ones cause if those things let go when your going around a corner it's not going to be pretty.

Unless you are going to race your car in grueling courses, stick with poly. They will last longer, and there is less chance that they could start making noises.

Alright, I'll just go with poly. I kinda figured I would anyway, but it never hurts to explore all options.

Thanks.

I agree, but there was something on here about them not lasting long. You can do a search, someone talked with the guys at spohn or some place and the longetivity of the heim joints was like four months or something.

Would stock LCA's with 187,000 miles on them do the same thing? When I go over bumps, it sounds like clattering wrenches in the back. I just re-did my ENTIRE suspension, except the LCA's. Maybe the bushings are shot? I don't want to pull them out just to replace the bushings cause it's a PITA. I'll wait until I get re-location brackets and either box my old ones and install new buchings or throw some lakewoods on there.

Did you install an adjustable panhard bar? I did, and a couple days after I put mine on, I noticed a rattle in the back. It turns out the jam nut came loose on it. If you have one of these, it would be worth checking to make sure it's tight.

Check the shock and LCA bolts to make sure they are tight. I wouldn't think a stock rubber bushing would make that noise even when worn.

Ok fellas

New Endlinks, everything is tight, shocks are 20k miles old, only bushings I did not replace were the LCA ones on the entire car.

The car rattled like this in the rear even before I did the suspension upgrade. I don't think my jam nut cam loose, I tightened the crap out of it.

if it did it before, and it does it after, it is probably something that you DIDN'T replace.

how do you spring isolators look?

Isolaters...

They looked really good. for anyone thinking that the ones jegs sells will fit our cars, forget about it. I bought them and they are really small pieces of crap, they don't even fit around the little doughnut that the spring sits on on the axle.

Everything is tight except the LCA's, I haven't touched them.
