aftermarket brake upgrade ?
I plan on getting aftermarket brakes for my 89 IROC(disk front, drum rear-10 bolt), I was thinking of going with Baer brakes, but I was wondering if I should do the front or the rear frist, I won't be able to afford both at once, so, should I get Baer front brakes, or rear disk brakes first??
you'll see the most benefit from the fronts.
going with a baer touring kit in the rear is the same as the stock disc setup on my own car. i might be able to find you a rear disc setup very cheap if you aren't in a hurry for that.
add some braided lines and you'll be good to go.

jeff, is that you?, if so, I just bought those seats off you last weekend
, yes , I can wait, probably be a while till I can afford any of this expensive stuff anyway, yes, if you can find it, i'll probably take it, I would need the entire rear for the stock setup, right? if so, need a 10-bolt so I can use my present posi and gears(zexel torsen and 3.73), keep an eye out and let me know if you find anything, I may be getting a new(better) job within a month, then I will have more money

well i'm sure i can get the disc setup relatively cheap....as far as the rear that's another story. it's rather hard to get that at times. but, i'll see what i can do.
i will have my 10 bolt for sale with posi for cheap very soon if your looking for something like that. however, i'm keeping my disc setup though.
i'll keep an eye out for you and let you know. email me in a week if you haven't heard anything just to keep up on it for me.

I have a 10 bolt posi, but it's drum, and everything I have heard, read says that the stock disk stuff won't work on the drum rears, if you know different, please , let me know
You will notice a bigger difference by doing the fronts first, but cost is really an issue. For the fronts you can choose between a OE 1LE upgrade, or the Baer stuff. Either way it will be over $700, probably closer to $900. Now there are some other cheaper things you can do that will make a difference and not cost an arm and a leg. That would basically be a good set of brake pads and the steel lines like recommended earlier.
Now for the rear you have alot of choices and I'm going to recommend the most cost effective. Your choices are a used junkyard OE 91-92 Disc Rear (same stuff on the 1LE's also came on all disc rear 91-92's), Andy Z28's rear kit (same stuff as the OE, but all new), the Baer rear disc kit (pretty much the same as the 91-92 OE stuff), and finally a LS1 rear disc brake swap, which you can do used junkyard stuff, or new. Prices can varry from $250-$900. I would recommend the most cost effective and easiest to find stuff from the junkyard, believe it or not the LS1 rear brakes. I got mine for $250 and they will work on the 10 bolt rearends with some modifications. There is a tech article on this website that shows you how to do it. Keep in mind when you go from drums to discs in the rear you may need a new brake master cylinder (get one off a 4 wheel disc 3rd gen), and you'll definately need a proportioning valve.
I'm kind of in the same situation as you. My car is a 91Z, but it has the junk discs in the front and drums in the rear. I have a long term plan to upgrade the brakes, but I wanted to do something cheap that would make a difference now. So I spent about $450 and I have all the parts I need for stage 1 of the brake upgrade. LS1 rear disc brakes, Willwood proportioning valve, 4 wheel disc BMC from a 90 IROC, new front pads (the Green Stuff woot!), and steel lines front and rear. It should make a huge difference in the braking performance of the car. Stage 2 will be a OE 1LE upgrade for the front, of which I have about $300 of the parts and need another $400 to complete. You can go bigger in the front but I want the stock 16's to fit.
